Overview

The 5 km Egg is a Pokémon Egg that hatches into a Pokémon after you place it in an Incubator and walk a base distance of 5 km. It sits between the 2 km and 10 km PokéStop Egg tiers and can be collected either by spinning PokéStops and Gyms or by earning the 25 km weekly Adventure Sync reward.

An Egg’s source matters just as much as its distance: a 5 km Egg spun from a PokéStop and a 5 km Egg earned through Adventure Sync draw from separate hatch pools and do not offer the same set of Pokémon.

How to get it

  • Spin Photo Discs at PokéStops or Gyms while you have an open regular Egg slot.

  • Walk at least 25 km during the weekly Adventure Sync period for a chance to receive a 5 km Adventure Sync Egg on Monday at 9:00 a.m. local time.

How to use it

  1. Place it in an ordinary incubator and walk the displayed distance.

  2. Tap the Egg to inspect its possible hatch pool. Event pools change, so a permanent list of species would become outdated.

Worth knowing

Adventure Sync Eggs can have a different pool from ordinary spin Eggs. Distance alone does not identify the hatch pool.

You cannot normally discard an Egg. Hatching is how you clear its slot.

Baseline hatch rewards

Hatch rewards include the resources listed below as well as the Pokémon that hatches. They are baseline amounts before event changes; the Stardust and Candy amounts are ranges, not promises of the maximum reward.

Using a Star Piece applies a 1.5× multiplier to the baseline 800–1,600 Stardust range, increasing your reward to 1,200–2,400 Stardust. Activating a Lucky Egg doubles the baseline 1,000 XP to 2,000 XP. For either bonus to apply, the item must be active at the exact moment the hatch completes, so activate it shortly before you finish walking the remaining distance.

The 10–21 Candy awarded on hatch belongs to the hatched Pokémon’s evolutionary family. Starting at Trainer Level 31 under the current leveling system, hatching a 5 km Egg also awards Candy XL as a separate resource—up to 16 Candy XL per hatch, averaging around 3.2 under baseline conditions—which is not included in the standard Candy range below.

What is determined before you hatch

An Egg’s Pokémon is locked in at the moment you receive the Egg, including its species, Individual Values (IVs), and Shiny status. Its level matches your Trainer Level when the Egg was obtained, capped at Pokémon Level 20 for Eggs collected at Trainer Level 20 or higher. Waiting to hatch an older Egg during a later event will not update it to that event’s hatch pool.

The location where you obtain the Egg is recorded as the hatched Pokémon’s origin location. This matters for distance-based trading rewards: while 7 km Eggs from distant friends or Mateo are most often used for long-distance trades, a 5 km Egg spun from a PokéStop while traveling keeps that distant location even if you hatch it back home. Always tap an Egg in storage to inspect its specific hatch pool and rarity tiers rather than assuming every 5 km Egg holds the same species.

Hatching, storage, and the reward

Open Pokémon Storage, switch to the Eggs tab, select the 5 km Egg, and choose Start Incubation. Once placed into an Incubator, an Egg counts toward your total Pokémon Storage capacity so that space is guaranteed when it hatches. Walking distance is tracked while the app is open or in the background through Adventure Sync. Because ordinary Eggs cannot be discarded, hatching them is the only way to clear a slot.

Your nine regular Egg slots are supplemented by three Bonus Storage slots reserved for eligible Adventure Sync reward Eggs and Team GO Rocket Leader 12 km Strange Eggs.

Because an Egg's contents are fixed upon collection, seasonal rotations never reroll Eggs already sitting in your storage. Pokémon hatched from 5 km Eggs have an IV floor of 10/10/10 across Attack, Defense, and HP, and award family Candy, Stardust, and XP, plus Candy XL starting at Trainer Level 31. Tapping the screen when the hatch animation starts will skip the rest of the sequence.

Preparing for the Adventure Sync reward

Walking at least 25 km during the weekly Adventure Sync period makes a 5 km Adventure Sync Egg a possible reward when the week resets on Monday at 9:00 a.m. local time. Reaching 25 km does not guarantee an Egg, as the reward bundle may award Rare Candy or Silver Pinap Berries instead.

If you walk 50 km or more, you qualify for both the 50 km reward bundle (which can award a 10 km Egg) and the 25 km bundle (which can award a 5 km Egg). Because the 50 km bundle is rolled first, keep two Egg slots open before Monday at 9:00 a.m. if you want a chance at both Eggs.

A 5 km Egg from a PokéStop needs one of the nine ordinary slots. An Adventure Sync 5 km Egg can use bonus storage when the regular area is full. If you are planning around the weekly reward, check those slots as well as the walking total.

The source changes the possible hatch pool, not the basic hatch distance. Either kind normally needs 5 km in a regular Incubator or approximately 3.33 km in a Super Incubator. An event’s collection pool and its incubation-distance bonus are separate conditions.
