Overview

A Star Piece is a consumable boost item that increases all eligible Stardust you earn by 50% (a 1.5× multiplier) for 30 minutes. Under the current leveling system, you receive your first free Star Piece as a level-up reward at Trainer Level 15, though there is no minimum level requirement to activate one acquired earlier from the shop or events.

Because the timer runs in real time, a Star Piece is most effective when you can collect several substantial payouts close together, such as GO Battle League rewards, Egg hatches, and high-value catches. Always activate the item before claiming a reward; it cannot increase Stardust that has already been added to your balance.

How to get it

  • Buy it from the in-game shop, earn it at Trainer level-up milestones starting at level 15 in the current leveling system, or claim it from eligible research, event, and Showcase rewards. It does not drop from spinning PokéStops.

How to use it

  1. Activate it before catching, hatching, or claiming the Stardust reward you intend to boost.

  2. For a large claim, confirm the Star Piece timer is running before collecting the reward.

Worth knowing

A busy catch session or a large GO Battle League reward can yield more value than an idle half hour.

Additional Star Pieces extend duration rather than multiplying the item’s 1.5× bonus again.

Calculate the benefit

A reward worth 20,000 Stardust becomes 30,000 with a Star Piece: 10,000 extra. When an eligible event already triples that reward, the combined factor is 3 × 1.5 = 4.5, not 3.5. Event restrictions still determine which rewards qualify.

Some catches are worth much more Stardust

Certain Pokémon species award much more Stardust per catch than ordinary wild spawns. While an ordinary unevolved Pokémon gives 100 base Stardust, species such as Paras, Meowth, Shroomish, Foongus, and Delibird give 500; Staryu, Combee, Trubbish, and Sableye give 750; Shellder and Chimecho give 1,000; and Audino gives 2,100 before bonuses. Activating a Star Piece adds 50% to those base payouts—for example, adding 50 extra Stardust to an ordinary catch, 500 to Shellder, or 1,050 to Audino.

Weather adds another multiplier to eligible catches. For example, a weather-boosted Shellder gives 1,000 × 1.25 × 1.5 = 1,875 Stardust with a Star Piece, before any event bonus. The practical gain depends on what you catch during the timer, not just the number of throws.

Shop offers and extending the timer

Standard shop offers are one Star Piece for 100 PokéCoins or a bundle of eight for 640 PokéCoins (80 PokéCoins each). You can also earn them from Special, Timed, and Field Research, PokéStop Showcases, and Trainer level-up rewards. Activating additional Star Pieces extends the running timer rather than compounding the 50% bonus, and the Help Center notes that you can stack up to 200 activations at once. The timer continues to count down even if you close the app.

Origin Forme Dialga’s Adventure Effect, Roar of Time, can pause an active Star Piece timer for 6 minutes at a cost of 5,000 Stardust and 5 Dialga Candy—meaning you would need to earn at least 10,000 base Stardust during those 6 extra minutes just to break even on the Stardust spent to pause it.

Event Stardust multipliers combine with a Star Piece. A sequence of Gigantamax Battles or an end-of-season GO Battle League reward claim can make good use of one. Check the current season’s reward rules rather than assuming that every rank has the same Stardust payout.

Activate before collecting the reward

For end-of-season GO Battle League rewards, activate the Star Piece before entering the battle screen that presents the season payout. For a normal set, have the timer running before claiming its Stardust rewards. Do not assume a Star Piece applied after a claim will work retroactively.

For a hatching session, start the boost before the Eggs finish their walking distance. The hatch animation is a presentation of a completed hatch, so waiting to see it can be too late. Weekly Adventure Sync rewards also need the boost active when awarded. Group compatible rewards into one window when their claim rules allow it.

Sharing a Star Piece

Party Share supplies every party member with 15 minutes from a normal Star Piece. You can share this item type four times daily; incoming shares have no daily cap. Event duration bonuses apply. The Stardust bonus stays at 1.5×.
