Overview

The green-spotted 2 km Egg is a Pokémon Egg that hatches after you place it in an Incubator and walk a baseline distance of 2 km. It is the shortest ordinary Egg you can collect from spinning PokéStop and Gym Photo Discs when you have an open regular Egg slot. Because it hatches quickly, it is well suited for your unlimited-use Incubator ∞, letting you save limited-use Incubators and Super Incubators for longer distances.

Event-themed 2 km Eggs are also frequently featured during Hatch Day events with spotlight Pokémon and reduced walking requirements. By contrast, the Daily Adventure Egg (available starting at Level 15) is a separate 1 km daily login feature with its own dedicated Incubator that does not take up regular Egg storage.

How to get it

  • Spin PokéStop or Gym Photo Discs while you have an open slot in your nine regular Egg storage slots.

How to use it

  1. Place the Egg in Incubator ∞, a standard Incubator, a Super Incubator, or a Timed Incubator, and walk the displayed distance.

  2. Tap the Egg to inspect its possible hatch pool. Event pools change, so a permanent list of species would become outdated.

Worth knowing

These are quick candidates for your Incubator ∞ when your goal is to clear ordinary Egg slots without spending limited-use Incubator charges.

You cannot normally discard an Egg. Hatching is how you clear its slot.

Baseline hatch rewards

Hatching a 2 km Egg awards the Pokémon inside along with XP, Stardust, and Candy for that species. The table below shows the baseline reward amounts before any event bonuses apply. While the 500 XP reward is fixed, Stardust and Candy are rolled within their respective ranges on each hatch.

  • Activating a Star Piece applies a 1.5× multiplier to hatch Stardust, raising the 400–800 baseline range to 600–1,200 Stardust.

  • Activating a Lucky Egg applies a 2× multiplier to XP, doubling the 500 baseline reward to 1,000 XP.

For either multiplier to apply, the item must be active at the exact moment the hatch reward is granted, so activate it before you finish walking the remaining distance.

The ordinary Candy awarded belongs to the hatched Pokémon’s evolutionary family; depending on the reference and specific hatch roll, sources report this baseline range as either 5–10 or 5–15 Candy. Once you reach Trainer Level 31, hatching a 2 km Egg can also award 0–8 Candy XL as a separate resource alongside ordinary Candy.

What is determined before you hatch

An Egg’s species, IVs, and Shiny status are locked in at the exact moment you receive the Egg from a PokéStop or Gym, not when it hatches. Holding onto an older 2 km Egg until a new Season or event begins will not update its contents to the new hatch pool.

A PokéStop or Gym Egg also records the location where it was collected as the hatched Pokémon’s origin, which is the location used to calculate trade distance. Walking somewhere else to finish incubating the Egg does not change that origin. Because the eligible species pool belongs to the time and place of collection, an older 2 km Egg in your storage can have a completely different hatch list from a newly obtained one.

Hatching, storage, and the reward

To start hatching, open Pokémon Storage, switch to the Eggs tab, select the 2 km Egg, tap Incubate, and choose an available Incubator. An unincubated Egg sits in your nine standard Egg slots without using a Pokémon Storage slot, but placing it into an Incubator reserves one Pokémon Storage space for the upcoming hatchling (and PokéStops will not drop new Eggs if either your regular Egg slots or your Pokémon Storage is full).

Walking distance counts while the app is open below the game's speed cap or in the background through Adventure Sync. Ordinary Eggs cannot be discarded or removed from an Incubator partway through; hatching is the only way to clear the slot.

Pokémon hatched from ordinary Eggs have an IV floor of 10 in Attack, Defense, and HP (10/10/10). A hatchling’s level matches your Trainer level when the Egg was collected, capped at Level 20 for any Egg obtained at Trainer Level 20 or higher. Each hatch awards Family Candy, Stardust, and XP, plus up to 8 Candy XL once you reach Trainer Level 31. Tapping the screen when the hatch animation starts shortens the sequence.

Reading the hatch list and making room

Tap a 2 km Egg in storage to view its eligible hatch pool grouped by rarity from one Egg icon (most common) to five Egg icons (rarest). If an Egg has no eligible Pokémon in a given rarity tier, that row of icons is omitted. These tiers show relative rarity rather than exact percentage odds, and species within the same tier do not necessarily share identical hatch rates.

Spinning a PokéStop or Gym with an open regular slot can award a 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km Egg; you cannot choose which distance drops. Egg storage holds nine regular slots alongside three bonus storage slots reserved exclusively for Weekly Adventure Sync rewards (5 km and 10 km Eggs) and Team GO Rocket Leader rewards (12 km Strange Eggs). A green 2 km Egg can only occupy one of the nine regular slots.

At normal walking distance, placing a 2 km Egg in Incubator ∞ or a standard Incubator requires the full 2 km, whereas a Super Incubator applies a 2/3 distance multiplier (about a 33.3% reduction) to reduce the requirement to roughly 1.33 km (displayed in-game as 1.3 km). Both Incubators hatch the exact same already-determined Pokémon. If you want open slots for an upcoming event such as a Hatch Day, hatch your stored Eggs before spinning PokéStops during the event.
