Overview

A Lucky Egg is a consumable boost activated from your Item Bag that doubles all XP you earn for 30 minutes. Despite its name, it is not a Pokémon Egg—nor is it the Daily Adventure Egg unlocked at level 15—and it never goes into an Incubator. Because the timer counts down in real time, a Lucky Egg delivers the best return when you line up high-value XP sources in advance, such as friendship milestones, raids, research claims, evolutions, or an active catching session.

How to get it

  • Purchase Lucky Eggs in the in-game shop (80 PokéCoins for one or 500 PokéCoins for eight, plus rotating event bundles), or earn them through Trainer level-up milestones starting at level 10, Special, Timed, and Field Research, top PokéStop Showcase placements, and eligible Route rewards.

How to use it

  1. Activate a Lucky Egg from your Item Bag before claiming or earning the XP you want to double, or tap the Lucky Egg prompt directly on a friendship milestone notification screen. Each Lucky Egg normally lasts 30 minutes.

  2. Plan your next activities first so menu time and travel do not consume most of the boost.

Worth knowing

Combine several high-XP actions in one window, such as friendship milestones, raid completions, and catches.

Activating extra Lucky Eggs stacks their duration (up to 200 Lucky Eggs at once) rather than increasing the multiplier to 4× XP.

Plan around the extra XP

Because a Lucky Egg applies a 2× multiplier to all XP earned while active, the net gain equals the baseline XP you would have collected during that window. If your planned activities earn 30,000 base XP over 30 minutes, activating a Lucky Egg brings your total to 60,000 XP—an extra 30,000 XP from that single item. Lining up large, immediate payouts before starting the timer yields far more XP than running a Lucky Egg during slow walking or menu management.

Friendship milestones can dominate a short XP session

Advancing friendship tiers is one of the most reliable ways to bank large XP payouts for a single Lucky Egg window. At standard base rates, reaching Good Friends (1 friendship point) awards 3,000 XP and Great Friends (7 points) awards 10,000 XP, which double to 6,000 XP and 20,000 XP with an active Lucky Egg.

The higher tiers offer massive returns: reaching Ultra Friends (30 points) awards 50,000 base XP and Best Friends (90 points) awards 100,000 base XP, jumping to 100,000 XP and 200,000 XP when doubled.

That makes several planned milestones more valuable than spending most of a 30-minute timer on low-XP actions. Seasonal friendship bonuses can alter the base awards, so check the current reward before calculating your session.

Sending a Gift does not advance friendship until your friend opens it. You earn friendship progress by opening a Gift, raiding together, trading Pokémon, or battling together. Standard interactions grant at most one friendship point per friend each day, though features such as Weekly Challenges can award additional points in a single day. Check each friend's remaining days before starting your Lucky Egg session.

The friendship level-up screen can offer a Lucky Egg button to double that award. Use the option before dismissing the screen. For a planned session, activating the Egg in advance also covers the catches, evolutions, and other XP you earn around the milestone.

Buying and timing Lucky Eggs

In the shop, a single Lucky Egg costs 80 PokéCoins and an eight-pack costs 500 PokéCoins, while rotating event boxes and bundles offer varying prices. Under the current leveling system (levels 1 to 80), you also earn 31 Lucky Eggs across level-up milestones: one each at levels 10, 20, 41, 51, 61, 72, and 76; two each at levels 30 and 40; three at level 50; four at level 60; six at level 70; and seven at level 80.

Additional free copies come from Special, Timed, and Field Research, top finishes in PokéStop Showcases, and eligible Route rewards. Because the 30-minute timer continues counting down while you are offline, only activate a Lucky Egg when you are ready to earn XP.

Activating more than one Lucky Egg extends the remaining duration while keeping the XP multiplier at 2×, up to a Help Center limit of 200 Lucky Eggs stacked at once. Closing the app does not pause the countdown, but Origin Forme Dialga's Roar of Time Adventure Effect pauses active Lucky Egg timers (along with Star Pieces, Incense, and Daily Adventure Incense) for 6 minutes per 5,000 Stardust and 5 Dialga Candy spent, stackable up to 2 hours at a time and up to 24 hours total.

Always glance at the active timer on the map view before claiming a major reward.

Event XP and saved rewards

A Lucky Egg multiplies an applicable event XP bonus. During a double catch-XP event, catches receive 4× their ordinary XP with an Egg, but unrelated activities only receive the Egg’s usual 2× unless the event includes them. The item does not increase Stardust or Candy.

Completed Special Research XP rewards can be saved for your next Egg. Treat Timed Research differently: claim it before its deadline, even if waiting would make a better XP session. A missed reward is worth less than an unboosted one.

Sharing a Lucky Egg

In Party Play, using Party Share divides a Lucky Egg's normal 30-minute duration in half, granting 15 minutes of 2× XP to every member of the party regardless of party size. Each Trainer can share a Lucky Egg up to four times per day (up to 60 shared minutes contributed per player), while there is no daily cap on how many shared Lucky Egg boosts you can receive from party members.

Active event duration bonuses apply to shared Lucky Eggs, and Party Share availability can vary by Trainer location.
