What do these Max Battle rankings measure?
These lists compare calculated Max Move damage using Pokémon GO stats, move power and the relevant form bonuses. Each top 10 uses the same defaults as its full type ranking, where you can inspect more options and change settings. They identify damage dealers; tanking, healing and team coordination are separate parts of winning a Max Battle.
Max Battle attacker FAQ
These answers use our default Level 40 rankings, which compare the damage dealt by one Level 3 Max Attack. You can customize the table, but the recommendations below stay on the default settings.
How are Max Battle attackers ranked?
We compare the damage dealt by a single Max Attack. The default settings use:
- Level 40 Pokémon with perfect 15/15/15 IVs
- Level 3 Max Attacks
- A neutral opponent with no type advantages; same-type attack bonuses still apply
- No weather boost
- Only Pokémon marked available in our data
Max Attack damage determines the ranking. When two movesets deal equal damage, we favor the Fast Attack that fills the Max Meter faster against the same neutral target.
These picks use the default ranking and stay fixed when you change the table settings.
This ranking measures damage per Max Attack. It does not estimate total battle time, fainting or the performance of a full team. A real boss’s Defense, resistances and weaknesses can change the damage and ranking.
Why do some attackers use a Fast Attack of another type?
These lists group Pokémon by the type of their Max Attack, not their own types. The Fast Attack can determine the Max Attack, but the rules differ by form:
- Dynamax Pokémon: Their Max Attack normally matches the type of their Fast Attack.
- Gigantamax Pokémon: Their G-Max Attack is fixed, regardless of their Fast Attack.
- Special exceptions: For Dynamax Pokémon, Hidden Power always produces Max Strike, regardless of its type. Crowned Pokémon and Eternatus also have fixed special attacks.
The recommended Fast Attack helps fill the Max Meter efficiently. It is not necessarily the one that deals the most damage during regular combat.
Does Max Attack level matter?
Yes. Increasing the Max Attack level makes the attack more powerful. Use the table settings to compare Max Attack levels 1, 2 and 3.
Your Pokémon’s level and its Max Attack level are separate upgrades. Both affect damage. The default rankings and FAQ recommendations use Level 3 Max Attacks.
Should I only power up the highest-ranked attacker?
Not necessarily. A strong Max Battle team needs more than damage. You may also need Pokémon that withstand incoming attacks, use Max Guard to absorb hits or restore HP with Max Spirit.
Before spending Stardust, Candy or Max Particles, check the counters for the boss you plan to fight. The guide below compares attackers, tanks and healers for one encounter.
What does the asterisk beside a move mean?
An asterisk (*) marks a legacy move. A recommended moveset may rely on one, so check how to get it before investing in that Pokémon. It may require an event, an Elite TM or another special method. Some legacy moves cannot be learned with an Elite TM. Excluding legacy moves can change the recommended moveset and ranking.
What do the ranking tiers mean?
Tiers group Pokémon with similar Max Attack damage, from SS (highest) to F (lowest). There are up to eight tiers, with more emphasis on performance differences among the strongest attackers.
The boundaries follow actual damage differences, not fixed ranking positions. Tiers update when you change battle settings, but stay consistent when you sort the table or switch pages.
If there are fewer than eight distinct damage scores, fewer tiers are used.
