Overview

A Silver Pinap Berry is a rare encounter berry that makes a Pokémon easier to catch while also increasing the ordinary Candy awarded when you catch it. Feeding one before a throw applies a 1.8× catch modifier—stronger than a Razz Berry's 1.5× modifier, though weaker than a Golden Razz Berry's 2.5× modifier—and multiplies ordinary catch Candy by 7/3 (about 2.333×).

Because the game rounds down to a whole number after multiplying, standard catches worth 3, 5, or 10 Candy award 7, 11, or 23 Candy before other bonuses.

How to get it

  • Earn Silver Pinap Berries from Mega Raid completion bundles, GO Battle League item rewards, Field Research, Special Research, Timed Research, PokéStop Showcases, and the 25 km or 50 km weekly Adventure Sync rewards (when rolling an item bundle or when your Egg slots are full). Although ordinary PokéStop spins do not drop them, spinning a new PokéStop marked as an interesting place by an Ultra Buddy or Best Buddy can award them.

  • Reach Trainer Level 24 in the current leveling system to unlock the item, and check seasonal GO Pass tracks for additional Silver Pinap Berry rewards. Under the current Level 1–80 progression, standard level-up reward bundles do not include Silver Pinap Berries.

How to use it

  1. On the encounter screen, select the berry and feed it to the Pokémon before throwing.

  2. Only one berry effect can be active. A miss does not remove it, but a breakout does; feed another berry after a breakout.

Worth knowing

Use a Silver Pinap Berry when both catching the Pokémon and earning extra Candy matter, or on guaranteed catches such as Shiny Legendary Raid Bosses to earn 7 Candy instead of the 6 from a regular Pinap Berry. If securing a difficult catch matters more than Candy, a Golden Razz Berry provides a stronger 2.5× catch modifier.

Spare Silver Pinap Berries can completely fill your Buddy's hunger meter in a single feed or restore motivation to friendly Gym defenders, though their catch and Candy multipliers only apply when catching a Pokémon.

How the catch bonus compares

A berry's catch modifier does not simply multiply your final percentage chance of catching a Pokémon; instead, it acts as an exponent inside the capture probability formula: Catch Rate = 1 − (1 − p)^m, where p is the single-throw catch probability before the berry and m is the berry's catch modifier (holding all other throw, ball, medal, and curveball bonuses constant).

For example, if your throw has a 20% chance of catching the Pokémon before feeding a berry (p = 0.20, so 1 − p = 0.80), feeding a Silver Pinap Berry (m = 1.8) raises your catch rate to 1 − (0.80)^1.8, or about 33.1%.

Under the exact same conditions, a Razz Berry (m = 1.5) gives 1 − (0.80)^1.5, or about 28.4%, and a Golden Razz Berry (m = 2.5) gives 1 − (0.80)^2.5, or about 42.8%.

Use a Silver Pinap Berry when you want extra Candy for a rare Pokémon family and still have a reasonable chance of catching it. It is also ideal for Shiny Legendary Raid Bosses—which are guaranteed catches on the first ball that connects—giving you 1 extra Candy over a regular Pinap Berry, or for early Premier Ball throws against standard Raid Bosses before your Premier Balls run low.

If securing the catch matters more than extra Candy, switch to a Golden Razz Berry for its 2.5× modifier. Because only one berry can be active per throw, you cannot combine two berries on the same attempt.

Its two bonuses solve different problems

A Silver Pinap Berry helps you both land the catch and earn more Candy from it. Its 1.8× catch modifier sits between an ordinary Razz Berry's 1.5× modifier and a Golden Razz Berry's 2.5× modifier.

For ordinary catch Candy, the berry applies a 7/3 (about 2.333×) multiplier and rounds down to the nearest whole Candy: Candy = floor(B × 2.333333), where B is the base catch Candy for the Pokémon's evolution stage. Compared with a regular Pinap Berry's 2× multiplier, a basic Pokémon (B = 3) awards 7 Candy instead of 6, a first-stage evolution (B = 5) awards 11 Candy instead of 10, and a second-stage evolution (B = 10) awards 23 Candy instead of 20.

This multiplier stacks with event catch-Candy multipliers and adds onto flat bonuses such as Mega Evolution catch Candy, but it does not affect Candy XL drops or Candy earned later from transferring the Pokémon.

As with other encounter berries, a missed throw does not use up the active berry, but the effect ends as soon as the Pokémon is caught or breaks out of a Poké Ball. If the Pokémon breaks free, you must feed another berry before your next throw to restore the bonus.

Feeding a Buddy and defending Gyms

Feeding a single Silver Pinap Berry completely fills all 3 segments of a Buddy Pokémon's hunger meter, matching the effect of a Golden Razz Berry, whereas an ordinary Razz, Nanab, or Pinap Berry fills only 1 segment and requires 3 berries to fill the meter. Feeding a Silver Pinap Berry to your Buddy does not grant extra walking Candy or trigger an instant Excited mood like a Poffin.

You can also feed Silver Pinap Berries to friendly Gym defenders: at the Gym, the first Silver Pinap Berry restores 24% of a defender's motivation—twice the 12% restored by an ordinary Razz or Pinap Berry, compared with 15% from a Nanab Berry and 100% from a Golden Razz Berry—with subsequent berries restoring less up to the limit of 10 berries per defender every 30 minutes.

Unlike a Golden Razz Berry, which restores 100% motivation from any distance, a Silver Pinap Berry loses effectiveness when fed remotely, restoring half as much as its on-site multiplier ( double the remote rate of an ordinary Razz or Pinap Berry). Like any berry fed at a Gym, each feed awards 30 Stardust, 50 XP, and roughly a 1-in-85 chance of earning 1 Candy for that Pokémon's family.

Because Silver Pinap Berries are much harder to replace than standardPokéStop drops, ordinary Razz, Nanab, and Pinap Berries are usually the better choice for routine Buddy and Gym feeding.

Why older Candy and feeding guides differ

Silver Pinap Berries debuted on August 20, 2018, as rewards in the Celebi Special Research storyline A Ripple in Time before entering Field Research tasks in September 2018. Originally, a Silver Pinap Berry awarded the same 2× catch Candy as a regular Pinap Berry (6, 10, or 20 Candy) and required 2 berries to fill an empty Buddy hunger meter.

The GO Beyond update in December 2020 buffed the berry to its current ~2.333× catch Candy multiplier and allowed a single Silver Pinap Berry to completely fill a Buddy's hunger meter. Later, the October 2025 progression overhaul (which expanded Trainer Levels from 50 to 80) moved the item's unlock level from Level 20 to Level 24 and removed the fixed bundle of 20 Silver Pinap Berries previously awarded at Level 43.
