Power-up calculator FAQ
How to calculate power-up costs
Choose the current level, target level and cost type. Totals add each half-level upgrade, with Candy rounding applied per upgrade. Most species share the same costs; Eternatus has its own option.
How do Lucky, Shadow and Purified costs differ?
Lucky Pokémon use 50% less Stardust. Shadow Pokémon cost 20% more Stardust and Candy, while Purified Pokémon cost 10% less. Lucky and Purified Stardust discounts combine. Candy discounts and surcharges also apply to Candy XL, rounded up for each power-up.
When does a Pokémon need Candy XL?
The upgrade from level 39.5 to 40 still uses ordinary Candy. The next upgrade, from 40 to 40.5, uses Candy XL instead. For a regular Pokémon, level 40 to 50 costs 250,000 Stardust and 296 Candy XL, with no ordinary Candy. Shadow Pokémon need 360 Candy XL for that range, and Purified Pokémon need 272.
Why can’t I enter my Pokémon’s CP as its level?
CP combines a Pokémon’s species, level and individual values (IVs). Two Pokémon with the same CP can have different levels, so CP alone cannot identify a power-up cost. Use your Pokémon’s actual level; our CP calculator can help compare levels when you know its species and IVs.
Why does the Candy total differ from a simple percentage calculation?
Each half-level upgrade is priced separately. For example, a Shadow upgrade that normally costs 1 Candy costs 2 after its 20% increase is rounded up. Adding these rounded costs can produce a different total from multiplying the final regular total by 1.2.
Can a Pokémon be both Lucky and Purified?
Yes. Choose Lucky + Purified to apply both Stardust reductions. The Lucky discount does not reduce Candy or Candy XL. Shadow and Lucky are not offered together because Shadow Pokémon cannot be traded to become Lucky.
Should I use the boosted level of a Best Buddy?
Use the permanent level before the Best Buddy boost. The active Best Buddy bonus temporarily adds a level without spending resources. A level 50 Pokémon boosted to 51 therefore has no additional power-up cost, and level 51 is not a paid target in this tool.
Why does Eternatus have its own cost type?
Eternatus needs more Candy and Candy XL than other Pokémon, while its Stardust costs follow the usual amounts. Choose Eternatus to calculate its power-up costs. Lucky, Shadow and Purified discounts or surcharges do not apply to this option.
Is powering up to level 50 always worth it?
That depends on your team and purpose. Compare the level 40 and 50 totals before spending Candy XL, then check the Pokémon’s raid or league ranking. For CP-limited PvP leagues, check the resulting CP before powering up: a Pokémon that exceeds the league limit cannot be powered back down.
What is included?
Only power-ups are included, up to Pokémon level 50. Candy XL is used for upgrades above level 40. Evolution, purification and second Charged Attacks cost extra. The temporary Best Buddy level boost does not require a power-up. Your available target level also depends on your Trainer level.
