Shadow Giratina (Altered Forme) PvE Analysis

Recommended moves

With the 1.2x Shadow boost to its ATK, Shadow Giratina Altered carves a place for itself among the top Ghost-type attackers in PvE. Since it is inherently bulky, the 0.83x Shadow nerf to its DEF doesn't hurt it much and it functions as a bulky Ghost Pokémon, edging past Giratina Origin in damage output, while reflecting nearly the same tankiness. 👍

As a Dragon type, Shadow Giratina Altered has a subpar moveset and a largely outclassed offensive potential, putting it behind even Dragons like Alolan Exeggutor, Flapple, and Drampa in damage figures.

Use it strictly as a Ghost type in PvE.

⚔️ Raids

Shadow Giratina Altered just trails behind Gholdengo and Hoopa Unbound in Ghost-type DPS, making it a quality addition to your team. Moreover, its bulk is quite high for a Shadow Pokémon, thereby contributing to high TDO as well.

Keep in mind that it needs the Legacy Charged Move Shadow Force to be meta relevant.

💎 The best PvE moves for Shadow Giratina Altered are Shadow Claw and Shadow Force.

Shadow Giratina (Altered Forme) PvP Analysis

Recommended moves

🔵 Great League

Shadow Giratina Altered is a dominant addition to the Great League, achieving everything that regular Giratina Altered does, and more. The extra power packed in its moves helps the Shadow variant take down Clodsire and Shadow Dusclops when (1-1) shields are up. This is a small but significant improvement, but Shadow Giratina Altered takes an affirmative lead when there are no shields in play, beating Dunsparce, Shadow Marowak, and once again, Shadow Dusclops, all of which regular Giratina Altered loses to. 👏

Shadow Giratina Altered is a must-have Pokémon for the Great League, and even in unfavorable matchups, its strong moves do quite a number on the opposition.

🟡 Ultra League

The regular and Shadow variants of Giratina Altered perform very similar to each other in the (1-1) shield scenario of the Ultra League, exchanging a few wins with one another. While the regular variant beats Feraligatr, Skeledirge, and Zygarde Complete, Shadow Giratina Altered eliminates Lapras and Cradily.

With no shields, they are evenly matched in terms of performance as Shadow Giratina Altered gets the best of Cradily while the regular beats Registeel.

Overall, they are hardly any different but regular Giratina Altered has a bit of an upper hand solely based on how much more common its targets are in the Ultra League meta.

🟣 Master League

Shadow Giratina Altered loses some of its steam in the Master League but still manages to beat many Dragon, Ground, and Water types like Black and White Kyurem, Dragonite, Palkia Origin, Primarina, Kyogre, Groudon, Landorus Therian, and Rhyperior.

However, Giratina Origin with its Ghost-type offense is considerably better in the Master League, covering more neutral targets and having more closing power.

💎 The best PvP moves for Shadow Giratina Altered are Dragon Breath, Dragon Claw and Ancient Power.
