Psychic
Mega Latios is a solid Pokémon on both the Dragon and Psychic fronts, dealing excellent damage figures. While it's fantastic for sure, this Legendary fits in two of the most heavily contested and overpowered types in the franchise, filled with the likes of Mega Rayquaza and Mega Mewtwo Y.
In both its typings, Mega Latios manages to be viable regardless of being outclassed by a bunch of powerhouses. Let's see how it performs in both its types, and also as a makeshift Fighting-type attacker.
🐲 Dragon type
As mentioned, this type is extremely crowded and Mega Latios gets the short end of the stick with moves that are inferior in power on the PvE scene. Nonetheless, it is smooth to use during Raids and easier to dodge with, rendering the invaluable Dragon-type Mega Boost for a longer period of time.
To put its Dragon-type performance into perspective, Mega Latios' damage output rests somewhere in the range of Dragon Energy Regidrago and Haxorus, making it quite meta honestly.
While Fairy Pokémon lead the charge, Mega Latios is a good option to boost Dragon-type damage against Dragon/Fighting Pokémon like Koraidon or in any Kommo-o Raids.
👁️ Psychic type
Mega Latios is a phenomenal Psychic-type attacker. The entire Mewtwo entourage is the ceiling of Psychic Pokémon, and only Mega Alakazam, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Gallade, Shadow Rider Calyrex overtake Mega Latios in power. Against Fighting-type Raid Bosses, Mega Gardevoir is preferred but overall, Mega Latios is far bulkier and hands great staying power, making it useful.
🥊 Fighting type
Mega Latios may not be a Fighting Pokémon but access to the powerful Aura Sphere makes it a fearsome Pseudo Fighting type.
In fact, Mega Latios dishes out the most damage through Dragon Breath and Aura Sphere. So, it is a superb counter to use against Normal and Rock type Raid Bosses, especially if the Boss has a Fighting-type Charged Attack. Fun fact, Mega Latios with Aura Sphere does more damage than Lucario, making it among the top “Fighting types” in Pokémon GO.
⭐ Perks
Mega Latios is a smooth operator, fulfilling multiple roles with great skill. It isn't in the top bracket of the metas it battles in, but still impresses with its high offense and longevity in battle. It's also a top-tier Fighting type with Aura Sphere.
PvP Analysis
Mega Evolutions generally can't be used in the GO Battle League, but for the Mega Master League (as and when available), Mega Latios is excellent. 👌
A 335 ATK backed Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw can rip apart most of the opposition. Again, remember that it's a dud against Steel types. 🔩
