PvE Analysis
Recommended moves
- Dragon Attacker:
Dragon Tail
Draco Meteor - Flying Attacker:
Fire Fang
Fly
Mega Salamence has high ATK, diverse moveset and overall amazing stats. With a few TMs, you can use Mega Salamence not just as a Dragon and Flying type, but also a makeshift Dark or Fire type, and at times, even have it contribute Water-type damage. 👀
⚔️ Raids
Right off the bat, Mega Salamence is a powerful Dragon type and even though it can't compete with the likes of Eternatus, Mega Rayquaza, and Mega Garchomp, it has its own niches.
🐲 First, Mega Salamence learns both Outrage and Draco Meteor in Pokémon GO. Thanks to its high bulk, it can pull off Draco Meteor quite successfully. In the event of it being close to fainting, Mega Salamence can opt to use a second Charged Move: Outrage. This way, it is a tactical Dragon-type attacker.
🪽 Mega Salamence may not have got access to a Flying-type Fast Move yet in Pokémon GO, but it learns the powerful Fly. With high DPS, Mega Salamence rounds up as a neat Flying-type attacker as well. Also, you can use the Fire Fang + Fly combo to punish Grass and Bug type Raid Bosses.
🌑 The Tales of Transformation Season added Brutal Swing and Crunch to Salamence’s portfolio, helping it masquerade as a Dark-type attacker. While Shadow Salamence enjoys this add-on more (being on par with Mega Houndoom in DPS!), Mega Salamence’s Dark-type TDO is just behind Mega Tyranitar. Such a performance while lacking STAB is impressive and you can give Mega Salamence a shot, although regular Brutal Swing Hydreigon is better.
🔥 Not as great as its Dark-type role, Mega Salamence can be used with Fire Fang and Fire Blast for Fire-type damage.
🌊 With Hydro Pump in its arsenal, Mega Salamence does decent damage to Ground-type Raid Bosses with Dragon Tail and Hydro Pump.
That said, always try to stick to STAB when choosing your counters.

PvP Analysis
Mega Evolutions can't be used in the GO Battle League, but when the Master League: Mega Edition pops up, some of them become formidable combatants 🤺.
🔵 Great League - Not eligible.
🟡 Ultra League - Not eligible.
🟣 Master League - In the Mega Edition, Mega Salamence is a deadly entrant despite not having a particularly PvP-friendly moveset 😲.
This can be attributed to its high stat product as well as the addition of Fly to its movepool. When combined with Dragon Tail and Outrage, Mega Salamence can defeat a large portion of the meta and is undoubtedly one of the best in this format 📈.
