Shadow Dialga is a welcome addition to both the Steel and Dragon type meta. While the drop in Defense may seem concerning, Dialga’s natural bulk and plethora of resistances dampen out the nerf. Shadow Dialga is always in the top bracket of attackers but is also outclassed by a few Pokémon. 🙂
⚔️ Raids
As a Steel type, Shadow Dialga is just behind Dusk Mane Necrozma and Shadow Metagross in performance. However, both DM Necrozma and Shadow Metagross resist Fairy and Ice type attacks while Shadow Dialga takes neutral damage due to its part Dragon typing. 😯
As a Dragon type, Shadow Dialga trails behind Mega Rayquaza, Shadow Salamence, Shadow Palkia, Shadow Dragonite, and Mega Garchomp but it holds a privilege that none of the other dragons do — taking neutral damage from Dragon-type attacks instead of super-effective damage (thanks to its part Steel typing)! As such, Shadow Dialga often outperforms them and is a must-have for your anti-Dragon squad. 🐲

Shadow Dialga is constrained in the Great and Ultra League due to the CP restrictions in these platforms. With the loss in bulk plummeting further due to these limitations, Shadow Dialga mostly struggles even though its resistances somewhat help it to tank hits. Beyond this, it's best to use Shadow Dialga in the Master League. 👇
🟣 Master League
Shadow Dialga is actually better than regular Dialga in the Master League, punishing opponents with its high damage and flexing its resistances. It beats major threats like Zygarde Complete, Primarina, and Dialga Origin (which Dialga can't). However, it also loses to Enamorus and Mewtwo. Moreover, the Shadow nerf to its Defense makes it a bigger challenge to face Togekiss, to beat it, or to switch out in that faceoff. ‼️
In all other cases, Shadow Dialga’s stronger Dragon Breath does heavy damage on non-Fairy and non-Steel Pokémon. It's also a great switch in when your opponent is locked in. 🎯
💥 The best attackset for Shadow Dialga in PvP is Dragon Breath, Iron Head and Draco Meteor.
