Meteor Mash
Mega Lucario is not just the best Fighting type in the meta, it's also one of the best Pokémon in the game. Sporting incredible damage thanks to its high offenses and excellent moves, this prized Pokémon is also an evergreen counter for Team GO Rocket members, including the Leaders and Giovanni.
It is quite fragile but thankfully, it dishes out a lot of burst damage in whatever time it sticks around in the battlefield. In fact, a whopping nine type resistances somewhat compensate for its low bulk. This is a glass cannon at its best!
Here's how Mega Lucario squares off against others in its typings and on a general basis:
🥊 Fighting type
Mega Lucario dominates the Fighting-type charts to the extent that the next spot is taken by none other than regular Lucario, putting all other Megas, Legendaries, and Shadows to shame.
With Steel as its secondary typing, no other Mega can claim any real advantages over Mega Lucario, no matter what their secondary typing is. This, combined with the fact that Aura Sphere has a lower cooldown than common Fighting-type Charged Attacks like Dynamic Punch and Focus Blast, makes dodging easier. As a result, Mega Lucario actually ends up with a good TDO that is higher than Mega Blaziken and comparable to Terrakion.
However, in larger lobbies there is another Fighting-type Mega that often performs better than Mega Lucario due to superior bulk and stats: Mega Heracross. Unlike Mega Lucario, Mega Heracross’ Bug subtyping helps it resist Fighting and Ground coverage attacks that the Raid Boss might have (Mega Lucario is weak to both).
As such, Mega Heracross is a competitive Fighting-type Pokémon but at the end of the day, Mega Lucario reigns supreme in overall performance.
⚙️ Steel type
Mega Lucario is a solid Steel type, although it's not as dominant as it is as a Fighting type. While its damage output is great, it's quite frail, which severely affects its TDO. In addition, most Steel-type behemoths like Zacian Crowned, Dusk Mane Necrozma, Zamazenta Crowned, and Mega Metagross boast high bulk. Not to mention, even Shadows like Shadow Dialga and Shadow Metagross sport higher bulk than Mega Lucario.
Moreover, Mega Lucario takes neutral damage from Fairy-type moves, one of the main types that Steel Pokémon counter.
📋 General comparison
Under the neutral damage ceiling set by titans like Mega Rayquaza, Mega Mewtwo Y, Eternatus, and Shadow Regigigas, Mega Lucario occupies an affirmative spot. Partly cloudy weather is also fairly common in Pokémon GO, giving the already phenomenal Mega Lucario an insane boost to its Fighting-type attacks.
⭐ Perks
As one of the highest damage dealers in Pokémon GO packed with numerous resistances and a powerful moveset, Mega Lucario is an asset. It's quite future-proof in viability as well, cementing its spot as one of the greats of the game.
