⚔️ Raids

With a massive jump in its ATK stat from regular Skarmory, Mega Skarmory with 273 ATK is definitely viable in Pokémon GO Raids. While it's quite obvious that its damage output won't take it to the heights set by the Crowned Dogs and Dusk Mane Necrozma (Steel) and Mega Rayquaza (Flying), the performance is undoubtedly good enough for usage in Tier 5, Mega, and Shadow Raids in some cases.

  • Air Slash and Steel Wing: Mega Skarmory’s Fast Attacks. Unlike some Pokémon like Aerodactyl, Mega Skarmory has access to both of its type’s moves.
  • Sky Attack, Brave Bird, Flash Cannon, Drill Run and Drill Peck+: Mega Skarmory’s Charged Attacks. Unfortunately for Mega Skarmory, it is stuck with Flash Cannon in the Steel type department, which isn’t a strong move. In the flying department however, it has access to a new Mega Charged Attack, Drill Peck+. Its other attacks are more PvP oriented than PvE.

Mega Skarmory's DPS output as a Steel type is almost the same as regular Dialga. What really pulls it back is the fact that the Flying subtyping makes this Pokémon take neutral damage from Ice and Rock type offense, two types that Steel counters. Honestly, you're better off using stronger Steel types that not only inflict higher damage figures, but also perform better defensively (one of the defining traits of Steel Pokémon).

Mega Skarmory not only deals more damage with its Flying-type attacks, but its typing also makes it a better attacker in this meta. As a Steel/Flying type, Mega Skarmory heavily resists Bug and Grass, two Raid Bosses that Flying Pokémon counter. Note that Flying is one of the weirdest types in Pokémon GO given that the top Pokémon is one of the best in the game (Mega Rayquaza) and many top stat Pokémon lack a Flying Fast/Charged Attack (Mega Salamence and Mega Charizard Y). With Mega Skarmory that isn’t the case. Running Air Slash and Drill Peck+, it is the second best and easily accessible flying raid attacker. So, with Mega Skarmory boasting excellent resistance to Bug and Grass, having high DEF, access to Drill Peck+ and being a Mega Evolution that boosts the damage of fellow Flying-type attackers, this is actually a very functional Pokémon!

🔵 Mega Great League

Mega Skarmory is hampered by the 1500 CP limit and is worse than a lot of other steel and flying Pokémon eligible in Great League including regular and shadow Skarmory.

🟡 Mega Ultra League

While Mega Skarmory fares slightly better in the Ultra League because of the higher 2500 CP cap, it still isn’t a strong pick. It continues to trail regular and shadow Skarmory.

🟣 Mega Master League

With no CP cap, Mega Skarmory performs to its full potential, which sadly, still isn’t enough to make it a top pick for Mega Master League. Honestly, it is best for Trainers to stick with Mega Skarmory for PvE and forget about it in PvP.
