- Psychic Attacker:
Psycho Cut
Psystrike *
Mewtwo has always been a force to be reckoned with in Pokémon GO, but Shadow Mewtwo takes that performance to another level by becoming one of the most dreaded damage dealers in the game.
While regular Mewtwo fell shy of Mega and Shadow Alakazam in DPS, Shadow Mewtwo achieves a higher DPS, surpassed only by Mega Mewtwo X and Y. Indeed, this is one of the best Shadow Pokémon of all time, and entirely worth all the resources and the painful grind in powering one up.
But this begs the question… is Shadow Mewtwo a stronger attacker than Mewtwo's Mega Evolutions? The answer is NO.
Forget the ridiculous Mega Mewtwo Y, Shadow Mewtwo is unfortunately not even able to outperform the inferior Mega Mewtwo X. And this is not even considering bulk, where both Mega Evolutions excel. In terms of pure damage output, you would always want to go with your favourite Mega Mewtwo version (we recommend Mega Mewtwo Y 😄).
Moreover, Megas also help boost the damage output of other Raid attackers of the same type, making them even more valuable than the Shadow.
That said, there's an old saying that goes, “If you can't beat them, join them.” So, why not use Shadow Mewtwo alongside Mega Mewtwo X/Y to create a formidable Psychic-type duo in Raid battles.
Remember that Shadow Mewtwo learns several other Charged Attacks of other types, and going by its insane offensive strength, you can unlock a Second Charged Move and use it flexibly (best ones are Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt).
Shadow Mewtwo is also among the top neutral damage dealers in Pokémon GO, behind only Shadow Regigigas when it comes to Shadow Pokémon in this elite list of attackers (in which Mega Mewtwo Y is top-notch).

🟡 Ultra League
Shadow Mewtwo is decent in the Ultra League and suffers from low bulk, but whatever time it gets to battle, it shines! Unlike regular Mewtwo, Shadow Mewtwo can beat Giratina Altered in (1-1) shields, while adding some impressive wins such as Togekiss, Shadow Feraligatr, Gourgeist Super, and Talonflame.
In the (0-0) shield scenario, Shadow Mewtwo is a straight upgrade, slaying Gourgeist Super, Skeledirge, Drifblim, Shadow Ampharos, and Lapras. However, it loses to Giratina Altered, which regular Mewtwo beats in this situation, and also loses to Cradily and Blastoise.
Overall, using Shadow Mewtwo in the Ultra League is risky and you're better off sticking with Armored Mewtwo, which is also a better Pokémon for these battles.
🟣 Master League
Over the years, Mewtwo has faced a fall from grace in the Master League because of the introduction of several stronger Legendaries, who bring more value to the table. That doesn't mean that Mewtwo is out of business. In fact, it's still a very strong threat, and Shadow Mewtwo is more of a sidegrade.
The extra oomph in its ATK legs Shadow Mewtwo takes out the likes of Dusk Mane Necrozma, Xerneas, Reshiram, Zekrom, and Metagross. However, it also loses some matchups which regular Mewtwo wins, such as Zamazenta Crowned Shield, Solgaleo, Florges, and Melmetal.
Even where there are no shields in play, the Shadow is hardly any different from the regular version, beating Metagross and Dusk Mane Necrozma, but losing Kyogre and Xerneas.
Shadow Mewtwo is a handy Pokémon, but not the beast that it once was in the Master League.
