Mega Mewtwo Y was once expected to become the most powerful Pokémon Pokémon GO had ever seen. Had it arrived during the game’s early years, its absurd Attack stat and broad coverage could have warped the entire raid meta around it.

The game has changed since then. Mega Rayquaza, Mega Lucario, and other elite attackers have pushed the damage ceiling even higher—but Mega Mewtwo Y is still every bit the monster Trainers expected.

With an Attack stat just one point below Deoxys Attack Forme, excellent bulk, and one of the best movesets in the game, Mega Mewtwo Y sits comfortably among Pokémon GO’s greatest attackers. It may no longer be the undisputed king of everything, but it absolutely rules its own type and remains a devastating generalist.

There is no real competition here. Mega Mewtwo Y is the strongest Psychic-type attacker in Pokémon GO, outperforming Mega Mewtwo X, Shadow Mewtwo, Mega Alakazam, Shadow Alakazam, and Shadow Rider Calyrex.

It leads the Psychic-type meta in both damage and total damage output, meaning it hits harder and lasts longer than every major rival. On top of that, its Mega Boost strengthens the Psychic-type attackers used by the rest of the raid group.

In other words, Mega Mewtwo Y does not merely top the Psychic rankings—it dominates them.

🥊 Against Fighting-type Raid Bosses

Against Fighting-type Raid Bosses, Mega Mewtwo Y’s main competition comes from Mega Rayquaza and Dragon Ascent.

Mega Rayquaza can produce slightly higher raw damage under the right conditions, but Mega Mewtwo Y is bulkier and benefits from dealing super-effective damage with both its Fast and Charged Moves. Both Pokémon also resist Fighting-type attacks, making the matchup much closer than the damage rankings alone might suggest.

Mega Rayquaza may win the pure DPS race, but Mega Mewtwo Y can often remain in battle longer, maintain its Mega Boost, and deliver a more consistent overall performance.

☠️ Against Poison-type Raid Bosses

Against Poison types, Mega Mewtwo Y completely takes over.

Even Primal Groudon struggles to keep up, with Mega Mewtwo Y delivering substantially higher damage against typical Poison-type Raid Bosses. Its combination of Psychic-type Fast Move pressure, Psystrike, and enormous Attack leaves little room for anything else to compete.

For Poison-type raids, Mega Mewtwo Y is the clear first choice.

🌐 Generalist Performance

Mega Mewtwo Y is not limited to Psychic-weak targets. Its raw stats and flexible movepool also make it one of Pokémon GO’s strongest neutral-damage attackers.

Under neutral weather conditions, only a small number of attackers can surpass its raw damage output. Even then, Mega Mewtwo Y boasts exceptional total damage output, allowing it to remain active longer and keep its Mega Boost running for the rest of the lobby.

That durability matters. In close raids, a Mega that survives longer can provide more value than one that briefly produces slightly higher DPS before fainting.

Mega Mewtwo Y also has access to moves such as Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower, giving it strong coverage against a huge variety of targets. Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball would once have made it the default choice for almost every raid that did not resist it—and that combination remains extremely powerful today.

🌟 Is Mega Mewtwo Y Future Proof?

Absolutely.

Mega Mewtwo Y is already the undisputed king of Psychic-type damage, and there is little on the horizon that threatens to remove it from that position. Psystrike may not be quite as absurd as moves such as Dragon Ascent or Aura Sphere, but Mega Mewtwo Y’s overwhelming Attack stat more than makes up for it.

It is also one of the safest Mega investments in the game. It dominates its primary typing, performs brilliantly as a generalist, offers excellent coverage, and has enough bulk to keep contributing throughout the battle.

Mega Mewtwo Y may not have become the single most powerful Pokémon in every possible situation, as Trainers once imagined back in 2016.

It became something almost as impressive: the definitive Psychic-type attacker and one of the greatest Mega Evolutions Pokémon GO has ever seen.

Basically, you are going to want Mega Mewtwo Y. 💯

• Confusion is the best option when Psychic-type damage is super effective or when you simply want maximum raw damage.
• Psycho Cut deals less damage, but its faster energy generation makes Charged Moves easier to reach and gives Mega Mewtwo Y more room to dodge. It is usually the safer choice for coverage-based movesets.
• Psystrike is Mega Mewtwo Y's defining move. Paired with Confusion, it creates one of the strongest Psychic-type movesets in Pokémon GO.
• Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower all provide useful coverage and generally work best with Psycho Cut. Confusion can still be used when Psychic Fast Move damage remains valuable.
• Counter and Focus Blast can imitate a Fighting-type moveset, but Mega Mewtwo X performs that role better.
• Hyper Beam is an easy skip. Return should also be removed—but ideally, Shadow Mewtwo should never have been purified in the first place.
