The following chart shows Mega Mewtwo X's DPS and TDO for every fast and charge attack combination. This chart is useful for comparing the relative strength of Mega Mewtwo X's movesets. You can change the weather and the opposing Pokémon to see how it affects the rankings.

Legacy Elite Fast and Charge Attacks can only be obtained during special events, or by using an Elite Fast TM or an Elite Charge TM. Legacy moves are marked with an asterisk (*). The table above provides information on different moves Mega Mewtwo X has in Pokémon GO, along with their corresponding DPS (Damage per Second) and TDO (Total Damage Output).

Mega Mewtwo X in the meta

Mega Mewtwo X in the meta

      PvE AnalysisPvE Analysis

      Recommended moves

The Mega Evolution X Pokémon are notorious for being inferior to their Y counterparts in Pokémon GO. Just ask Charizard and Raichu!

Unfortunately, even for the Legendary Mewtwo, Y is affirmatively better than X. However, Mega Mewtwo X gains an additional typing, and is a Psychic/Fighting Pokémon.

Let's see how it fares in both its types.

      👁️ Psychic type

Mega Mewtwo Y is the undisputed ruler of the Psychic-type meta, doing 3.22% more damage than Mega Mewtwo X. The Y version is also bulkier than X, but the latter has one advantage. In case the Raid Boss has a Dark-type coverage move, Mega Mewtwo X takes neutral damage from it (due to its Fighting subtyping) rather than super-effective damage like Mega Mewtwo Y. Aside from this detail, Mega Mewtwo Y is superior to Mega Mewtwo X in every way. We still need to cut some slack for Mega Mewtwo X because it's second best in the Psychic department, overtaking Shadow Mewtwo, Mega Alakazam, and Shadow Rider Calyrex. But yes, given a choice between the two, Mega Mewtwo Y is always the way to go.

      🥊 Fighting type

Mega Mewtwo X is a top-notch Fighting Pokémon, crossing Shadow Blaziken, Keldeo Resolute, Mega Hawlucha, and Lucario in damage output, and trailing only behind Mega Lucario (regular and Z) and Mega Blaziken. Impressively, Mega Mewtwo X has the highest TDO of all Fighting types, so against a typical Raid Bosses weak to Fighting-type attacks, Mega Mewtwo X is amazing. However, the Psychic subtyping makes Mega Mewtwo X weaker against Dark-type Bosses, which other attackers like the Lucarios, Blazikens, and Keldeo resist. Just think how easy and cheap it is to power up Mega Blaziken, a starter that is stronger and more resourceful than the Legendary Mega Mewtwo X.

      🌐 As a generalist

In neutral in-game weather conditions, Mega Mewtwo X is behind Mega Lucario Z, Mega Rayquaza, and Mega Mewtwo Y. While this is certainly great, there are two issues. One, it is outclassed in both its types even in a neutral setting. Even though Mega Lucario Z is the top generalist in Pokémon GO, Mega Mewtwo Y only has to compete with Mega Rayquaza since both have the same super-effective coverage against Fighting and also share the same weather in which their attacks are boosted. With Mega Mewtwo X, it plays second fiddle to other Pokémon in both its types: Psychic (behind Mega Mewtwo Y) and Fighting (Mega Lucario Z). In other words, you'll always have something better to choose, be it particular types or in the role of a generalist, squaring off against superior attackers that share its typing. It's a classic example of a Pokémon that's simply brilliant on its own, but always secondary to stronger Pokémon.

🌟 Is Mega Mewtwo X future proof?

No, it's outclassed right from its debut. In the Psychic department, when it comes to prioritizing a certain Mega (especially with Mewtwo’s ridiculous Mega Energy costs), Mega Mewtwo Y is the clear choice.
