The following chart shows Mega Mewtwo X's DPS and TDO for every fast and charged attack combination. This chart is useful for comparing the relative strength of Mega Mewtwo X's movesets. You can change the weather and the opposing Pokémon to see how it affects the rankings.

Legacy Elite Fast and Charged Attacks can only be obtained during special events, or by using an Elite Fast TM or an Elite Charged TM. Legacy moves are marked with an asterisk (*). The table above provides information on different moves Mega Mewtwo X has in Pokémon GO, along with their corresponding DPS (Damage per Second) and TDO (Total Damage Output).

Mega Mewtwo X in the meta

Mega Mewtwo X in the meta

        PvE AnalysisPvE Analysis

        Recommended moves

Mega Mewtwo X is one of those Pokémon that looks absolutely terrifying on paper. It has a massive Attack stat, two powerful typings, and the ability to function as either a Psychic- or Fighting-type attacker. That sounds like the complete package.

The problem? Pokémon GO’s raid meta is now so competitive that being amazing is not always enough.

        👁️ Psychic-type Performance

As a Psychic-type attacker, Mega Mewtwo X is phenomenal. It comfortably outperforms Shadow Mewtwo, Mega Alakazam, and most other Psychic-type options in the game. Unfortunately for X, Mega Mewtwo Y exists—and it is simply better.

Mega Mewtwo Y deals more damage, has better bulk, and is the obvious choice when you want the strongest possible Psychic-type Mega. Mega Mewtwo X does have one neat advantage: its Fighting subtyping means Dark-type attacks deal neutral damage rather than hitting it super effectively. That can help against certain Raid Boss movesets, but it is a niche benefit rather than a reason to choose X over Y.

        🥊 Fighting-type Performance

Its Fighting-type role is where things become much more interesting.

Mega Mewtwo X hits extremely hard and has some of the best total damage output among all Fighting-type attackers. It can stay on the field for a long time, dish out serious damage, and outperform several major names in the Fighting-type meta.

Even so, it still struggles to claim the top spot.

Mega Lucario offers higher damage and a far better defensive typing, while Mega Blaziken is easier and cheaper to build. That leaves Mega Mewtwo X in an awkward position: it is undeniably elite, but there is usually another Fighting-type Mega that is either stronger, more practical, or less expensive.

Its supposed flexibility does not help as much as you might expect, either. Mega Mewtwo X needs Counter to work properly as a Fighting-type attacker, and Counter is an Elite Fast Move. That means you cannot realistically keep swapping between its Psychic and Fighting movesets without burning valuable Elite Fast TMs.

So much for being the ultimate two-in-one Mega.

        🌐 Generalist Performance

As a generalist, Mega Mewtwo X is still one of the strongest Pokémon in the game. It can tear through neutral targets and will perform brilliantly in almost any raid. The issue is that it keeps running into the same problem: Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Rayquaza, and the strongest Mega Lucario forms are all waiting above it.

That is really the story of Mega Mewtwo X. It is incredible by normal standards, but constantly overshadowed by something even better.

Does that make it bad? Absolutely not. Mega Mewtwo X is still a monster, especially as a Fighting-type attacker. It has huge damage, excellent longevity, and enough raw power to dominate almost anything weak to its moves.

It is simply hard to recommend as the first place to spend your Mewtwo Mega Energy.

        🌟 Future Potential

The good news is that Mega Mewtwo X may be only one move away from becoming truly ridiculous. In the main-series games, Mewtwo can learn Aura Sphere. Should that move eventually arrive in Pokémon GO, Mega Mewtwo X could see an enormous jump in Fighting-type performance.

With Aura Sphere, it could potentially challenge the very best Fighting-type Mega Evolutions in damage while beating them in total damage output. At that point, Mega Mewtwo X would no longer be the awkward alternative to Mega Mewtwo Y or Mega Lucario.

It could become the best Fighting-type attacker in Pokémon GO.

For now, Mega Mewtwo X is powerful, versatile, and slightly frustrating. It is one of the strongest attackers in the game, yet somehow still feels like the second-best choice wherever you use it.

        PvP AnalysisPvP Analysis

Counter and Focus Blast are usually the best way to use Mega Mewtwo X. Psychic-focused sets are still powerful, but Mega Mewtwo Y generally performs that role better.

        • Counter is generally Mega Mewtwo X's best Fast Move, giving it strong Fighting-type pressure and separating it from Mega Mewtwo Y.
        • Confusion offers heavier Psychic-type damage, while Psycho Cut trades damage for faster energy generation and easier access to Charged Moves.
        • Focus Blast is the natural pairing with Counter and gives Mega Mewtwo X its most distinctive moveset.
        • Psystrike remains its strongest Psychic-type Charged Move, with Psychic serving as a weaker alternative for Trainers without an Elite Charged TM.
        • Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower provide useful coverage, particularly alongside Psycho Cut. Hyper Beam is not worth using.

Mega and Primal Raid BonusMega Pokémon boost the attack power of all other Pokémon when battling in Raid Battles by 10%. Attacks that share their type with the Mega Pokémon's type(s) receive a 30% boost. However, these bonuses do not stack if there are multiple Mega-Evolved Pokémon battling simultaneously; only the higher boost will be applied.

Mega and Primal Catch BonusWhile a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

Note on Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Rayquaza
        • Primal Kyogre boosts Water-, Electric- and Bug-type attacks and Pokémon.
        • Primal Groudon boosts Fire-, Grass- and Ground-type attacks and Pokémon.
        • Mega Rayquaza boosts Flying-, Dragon- and Psychic-type attacks and Pokémon.

                  Catch probability with multiple throws

In order to help Trainers understand their overall odds when catching Mega Mewtwo X, we enable the functionality to showing the total chance to catch it depending on the number of available throws. We calculate this chance as if you repeated the same throw N-number of times.

To activate this functionality, change the number of Number of throws to a value greater than 1. The Number of throws option is available in the configuration options above the chart

                  Catch rate formula

Pokémon GO catch rate formula can be expressed as follows:

                  • CATCH_MULTIPLIERS = ball * curve * berry * throwType * (type1Medal + type2Medal / 2)
                  • CATCH_RATE = 1 - Math.pow(1 - baseCatchRate / (2 * cpm), CATCH_MULTIPLIERS)

There are different multipliers that come into play when calculating catch rate.

Curved throws are more effective than regular throws, stronger types of Poké Ball have a higher catch rate, and using a Razz Berry or a Golden Razz Berry also improves your chances.
