Overview

A Max Mushroom is a timed boost item that doubles (2×) the damage your own Pokémon deal in Max Battles for 30 minutes. This personal multiplier applies to Fast Attacks, Charged Attacks, and damaging Max Moves used by your Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon. While it helps you deal significantly more damage to the boss, it only affects your own attacks rather than boosting every Trainer in the lobby, and you still need the required Max Particles to enter the battle.

How to get it

  • Purchase Max Mushrooms in the in-game shop or Pokémon GO Web Store, or earn them from selected Event Ticket Timed Research, GO Pass reward tracks, and the level 80 level-up reward.

How to use it

  1. Activate a Max Mushroom from your Item Bag or the Max Battle lobby when your group is ready. The standard effect lasts 30 minutes, though special events can extend the timer.

  2. The timer runs continuously between battles, so prepare your battle team and Max Particles before activating the item.

Worth knowing

Activating additional Max Mushrooms extends the active timer, while the damage multiplier stays at 2×.

A Max Mushroom does not supply Max Particles, upgrade Max Moves, increase Max Guard or Max Spirit potency, or apply to ordinary Gym raids.

Damage helps, but it does not replace a prepared team

Max Battles become much more dangerous if the battle drags on and the boss reaches its desperate state. Dealing double damage with a Max Mushroom helps your group defeat the boss before it overwhelms your team, but the item does not reduce incoming damage or make your Pokémon immune to boss attacks.

Unlike ordinary Gym raids, you cannot rejoin the same ongoing battle with a fresh replacement team after all three of your Max Battle Pokémon faint, though you can stay to cheer for remaining teammates or restart if the entire group is knocked out. Prepare suitable counters and coordinate any supporting Max Guard or Max Spirit roles before activating a Max Mushroom. Purified Gems cannot be used in Max Battles to remove a boss’s desperate state.

Buying, earning, and using the boost

In the in-game shop, you can buy a single Max Mushroom for 400 PokéCoins or a bundle of three for 1,000 PokéCoins, and occasional special shop boxes or Pokémon GO Web Store bundles include them as well. Paid Event Ticket Timed Research for Max Battle Days regularly awards one Max Mushroom, and both free and Deluxe GO Pass reward tracks have included them during featured events.

Under the current leveling system, reaching Trainer Level 80 also awards one Max Mushroom. That level 80 milestone is simply a progression reward; you can use a Max Mushroom obtained from the shop or events as soon as you unlock Max Battles at Trainer Level 20.

You can activate a Max Mushroom from your Item Bag or directly inside a Max Battle lobby. Before spending one, check the lobby for active Max Mushroom icons next to other Trainers’ names to see how much extra firepower your group already has. Each active Max Mushroom only doubles its owner’s attack damage. It does not increase Max Spirit healing or Max Guard shield strength, and it does not transform a Dynamax Pokémon into a Gigantamax Pokémon.

Trial and timer limits

When Max Mushrooms launched, Trainers were offered a one-time five-minute free trial through the Max Mushroom button inside a Max Battle lobby. If this introductory trial is still available on your account, wait to trigger it until your group is in the lobby and ready to start the battle. It activates an immediate five-minute sample of the 2× damage boost rather than placing a 30-minute Max Mushroom into your Item Bag.

  • A standard Max Mushroom lasts 30 minutes—though special event bonuses can occasionally lengthen this duration—and the timer runs continuously in real time between battles.

  • Your attacks deal double damage only while the timer is active; starting a Max Battle before the timer expires does not lock in the 2× boost if the timer runs out mid-battle.

  • Activating additional Max Mushrooms stacks the remaining duration rather than raising the damage multiplier above 2×.

  • In addition, Origin Forme Dialga’s Roar of Time Adventure Effect does not pause or extend a Max Mushroom’s timer.

Introduction

Max Mushrooms were announced on November 26, 2024, and debuted ahead of the Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day on December 8, 2024. That event’s US$5.00 Event Ticket Timed Research included one Max Mushroom alongside 25,000 XP, establishing a pattern continued by later Max Battle Day tickets, GO Pass tracks, and level-up progression rewards.
