Overview
The Coin Bag is a reusable personal Incense-type item that attracts Roaming Form Gimmighoul for 30 minutes. Walking helps you make the most of its encounter window, and catching Gimmighoul can award Gimmighoul Coins toward the 999 needed to evolve it into Gholdengo. Sending a saved Postcard to Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet on a Nintendo Switch obtains and recharges the Coin Bag. Repeated daily sends also earn Golden Lure Modules, another major source of Gimmighoul Coins.
How to get it
Connect GO to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet and send a Postcard to receive the Coin Bag.
Sending another Postcard on a later day recharges it. The connection allows one Postcard send per day, resetting at midnight local time.
How to use it
Activate the charged bag from Items before a walk. Movement helps you make use of the encounter window.
Worth knowing
Gimmighoul Coins are distinct from PokéCoins and ordinary Candy.
Sending Postcards on five days also earns a Golden Lure Module (or Gimmighoul Coins if you already hold one), providing a complementary way to collect coins with other Trainers.
Use encounters and Golden Lures together
The Gimmighoul system has two connected parts: sending a Postcard charges the Coin Bag, while sending Postcards across five days awards a Golden Lure Module. Catching Roaming Form Gimmighoul and spinning the resulting Golden PokéStops both contribute toward the coin requirement. While your Coin Bag is active, spinning a Golden PokéStop also has an increased chance of awarding Gimmighoul Coins.
This gives you two complementary ways to play. The Coin Bag is personal and follows your movement, whereas a Golden Lure Module is attached to a PokéStop and benefits any Trainer spinning it nearby. Standard Gimmighoul Candy does not replace the 999 Gimmighoul Coins needed to evolve into Gholdengo.
The daily Postcard routine
You can send one Postcard per day to Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet to recharge the Coin Bag, and that daily limit resets at midnight local time. Sending Postcards on five different days—which do not have to be consecutive—awards a Golden Lure Module. You cannot send five Postcards on the same day to bypass the daily limit.
Because you can only hold one Golden Lure Module in your Item Bag at a time, completing your fifth Postcard send while still holding one awards Gimmighoul Coins instead.
Connecting the games and catching Gimmighoul
Pair Pokémon GO with Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet through Settings → Connected Devices and Services → Nintendo Switch. In the Switch game, open Poké Portal → Mystery Gift → Connect to Pokémon GO. Then open a saved Postcard in your Postcard Book in Pokémon GO, use its menu, and choose Send to Nintendo Switch. This sends a Postcard copy, so the original stays in your Postcard Book, though each individual Postcard can only be sent once.
A single Scarlet or Violet save file can also link with multiple Pokémon GO accounts, allowing Trainers without a Switch to charge their Coin Bag by pairing with a friend's console in person.
Open the recharged Coin Bag from your Item Bag when you are ready for a walk. It generates personal Roaming Form Gimmighoul encounters for 30 minutes and spawns them much more frequently while you are moving. Because it is an Incense-type effect, it cannot run alongside standard Incense, Daily Adventure Incense, the Mystery Box, or spawn-generating Adventure Effects such as Sunsteel Strike or Moongeist Beam. Additionally, Origin Forme Dialga's Roar of Time Adventure Effect does not pause the Coin Bag timer.
A successful Gimmighoul catch can award Gimmighoul Coins, though a drop is not guaranteed on every catch. Standard Gimmighoul Candy and Candy XL still serve their normal power-up purposes, and a Pinap Berry's Candy bonus does not multiply Gimmighoul Coins. Spinning Golden PokéStops and walking an eligible Buddy provide additional ways to gather the 999 Gimmighoul Coins needed for evolution.
