Overview

A Research Breakthrough Reward is a milestone package that grants Stardust, XP, an item bundle, and a Pokémon encounter after you collect Field Research stamps on seven different days. Rather than acting as a reusable inventory item in your Item Bag, it is claimed directly from the Research menu once your seven-stamp row is full. Any Trainer with access to Field Research can earn stamps without a separate level requirement.

Only one stamp counts per calendar day, though the seven days do not need to be consecutive. Complete and claim a Field Research task to record your daily stamp, then open the Breakthrough box on your seventh stamp to collect the rewards and start an encounter.

How to get it

  • Claim a completed Field Research task reward on seven different calendar days to fill your stamp card.

  • Earn at most one stamp per day; the days do not need to be consecutive, and missing a day does not reset your progress.

How to use it

  1. Open the Field Research tab and claim the Research Breakthrough box once all seven stamps are recorded to receive your rewards and start an encounter.

  2. Check the current season's announcement to see which Pokémon are in the rotating encounter pool and whether any seasonal bonuses apply.

Worth knowing

Only one random item bundle is awarded per Breakthrough, so do not plan around receiving a Remote Raid Pass, Sinnoh Stone, or Unova Stone every week.

Claiming several Field Research tasks on the same day awards only one stamp; hold an extra completed task unclaimed if you want to save it for tomorrow's stamp.

Reward package and item pool

A standard Research Breakthrough awards 2,000 Stardust, 3,000 XP, one random item bundle, and a Level 15 Pokémon encounter with an IV floor of 10/10/10. Seasonal bonuses can temporarily modify the base Stardust or XP amounts, and the encounter pool changes from season to season.

Alongside the guaranteed Stardust and XP, your package rolls one item bundle from a pool of documented possibilities: 20 Poké Balls, 20 Great Balls, 5 Ultra Balls, 5 Pinap Berries, 3 Rare Candy, 1 Sinnoh Stone, 1 Unova Stone, 2 Incense, 1 Lucky Egg, 1 Lure Module, 1 Egg Incubator, or 1 Remote Raid Pass.

These item bundles are mutually exclusive alternatives: each Breakthrough awards a single bundle from the pool rather than every listed item. If your Breakthrough rolls a Remote Raid Pass while you already hold the maximum of 3 Remote Raid Passes in your Item Bag, the game substitutes 1 Premium Battle Pass instead. Because the Pokémon encounter pool rotates with each season—ranging from a small handful of featured species to a wide seasonal selection—a Pokémon listed in an older guide may no longer be available.

Claiming tasks and keeping progress

Your daily stamp is awarded the moment you tap to claim a completed Field Research reward, not when you finish the task objective itself. Leaving a finished task unclaimed lets you claim it on a later day for that day's stamp, whereas claiming several completed tasks on the same day still grants only one stamp. Missing a day or more never erases the stamps you have already collected.

Only Field Research tasks—including tasks spun from PokéStops, your daily bonus task, and Sponsored Field Research—award daily stamps. Special Research, Timed Research, and Level-Up Research under the current leveling system do not count toward your seven stamps. You never need to purchase a ticket or pass to fill your stamp row, though child accounts need parental permissions enabled in the Parent Portal to receive Sponsored Field Research.

Both the seasonal encounter pool and the item bundle list work as independent random rolls rather than a checklist you work through in order. Catching one species from a Breakthrough does not increase the odds of seeing a different Pokémon next week, and going several weeks without a rare item bundle does not guarantee a Remote Raid Pass or evolution stone on your next claim.
