Overview

The Zygarde Cube is a permanent, reusable Key Item that stores Zygarde Cells collected from Routes. Trainers receive it at the end of Step 3 of 6 in the From A to Zygarde Special Research alongside their 10% Forme Zygarde encounter.

Once in your Item Bag, the Cube tracks your running Zygarde Cell balance without using extra bag space for the individual Cells. Spending Cells to change Zygarde's forme does not consume the Cube itself, and stored Cells are separate from ordinary Zygarde Candy.

How to get it

  • Claim the Zygarde Cube upon completing Step 3 of 6 in the From A to Zygarde Special Research.

How to use it

  1. After claiming the Zygarde Cube, follow and complete Routes (unlocked at Trainer Level 7). Under the October 2026 rules, any discovered Zygarde Cells are awarded automatically upon completing a Route, up to a daily limit of 3 Cells from Routes.

  2. Open the Zygarde Cube in your Item Bag to check your current Zygarde Cell balance against its 300-Cell capacity, then spend those Cells on Zygarde’s summary screen to change its forme.

Worth knowing

The Zygarde Cube is a permanent container in your Item Bag, and the Zygarde Cells stored inside it do not take up extra Item Bag space. Reverting Zygarde to a lower forme costs Candy and Stardust and does not refund spent Cells.

Rely on the live 300-Cell capacity displayed in game when planning your collections; older guides and launch-era text strings still reference the previous 250-Cell cap.

Capacity and the first Complete Forme

The Zygarde Cube holds up to 300 Zygarde Cells, raised in January 2025 from its original July 2023 launch cap of 250 Cells. Advancing a Zygarde from 10% Forme to 50% Forme requires 50 Cells, and changing from 50% Forme to Complete Forme requires another 200 Cells (250 Cells in total). Check your balance before claiming more Route rewards; Special Research and Timed Research rewards can follow different capacity rules.

Be careful after reaching a stronger forme: reverting from Complete Forme to 50% Forme, or from 50% Forme to 10% Forme, costs 10 Zygarde Candy and 2,000 Stardust per step. Reverting does not refund any Cells to the Cube, and changing back up requires spending the full 50 or 200 Zygarde Cells again.

Collecting Cells under the current Route rules

Under the October 2026 gameplay update, any Zygarde Cells discovered on a Route are automatically awarded as part of the Route completion rewards. You no longer need to watch the map for a glowing green glimmer and tap it before finishing. A single Route can award between 1 and 3 Cells on your first completion of that specific Route each day, up to a daily maximum of 3 Cells across all Routes.

Because the update did not increase the chance of finding Cells, finishing a Route without receiving a Cell simply means none spawned on that walk, not that the Zygarde Cube malfunctioned.

Keep the Cube after spending Cells: it remains available for later collection. A balance of 300 can fund one initial 250-Cell progression to Complete Forme with 50 left. The remaining balance is stored in the Cube, not turned into Zygarde Candy.

Having a Zygarde in your Pokémon storage is not enough to start earning Cells on Routes—you must hold the Zygarde Cube itself. Following Routes unlocks at Trainer Level 7 under the current leveling system, so make sure you have also completed Step 3 of From A to Zygarde and claimed the Cube before setting out to farm Cells.
