Overview

A Lure Module is a PokéStop attachment that attracts wild Pokémon to a fixed location for 30 minutes under normal conditions. Swirling pink petals mark the active PokéStop on the map, and any nearby Trainer can start an encounter with the Pokémon it draws in. Unlike Incense, which follows the Trainer who activated it, a Lure Module stays anchored at the PokéStop where it was installed. Tapping the PokéStop also shows the Trainer name of the player who placed the lure.

How to get it

  • Purchase single Lure Modules (100 PokéCoins) or bundles of eight (680 PokéCoins) in the in-game shop, or earn up to 18 total from level-up rewards between Levels 6 and 75.

  • Earn additional modules from eligible Research tasks, event reward tracks such as GO Pass milestones, and PokéStop Showcases; availability varies.

How to use it

  1. Open a PokéStop within interaction range, tap the empty module slot above the Photo Disc, and select Lure Module. Only one lure can occupy the slot at a time.

  2. Stay near the PokéStop to start encounters with the Pokémon it attracts. Unlike special lures, a standard Lure Module does not enable proximity evolutions.

Worth knowing

Place a Lure Module at a busy PokéStop when several Trainers plan to stay in one spot—catches made by other Trainers from your lure advance your Picnicker medal.

A Lure Module normally lasts 30 minutes. If an event bonus extends lure duration, place the module after the bonus window starts so the longer timer applies.

Placing and sharing a lure

To install a Lure Module, walk within interaction range of a PokéStop, tap the empty module slot above the Photo Disc, select Lure Module, and confirm. Gyms do not have a module slot, and a PokéStop with an active lure cannot accept a second module until the first timer expires. Placing the item consumes it from your Item Bag immediately; walking away leaves the lure running at the PokéStop rather than taking it with you.

Shop and rewards

The in-game shop offers one Lure Module for 100 PokéCoins or a bundle of eight for 680 PokéCoins, which works out to 85 PokéCoins per module. In the current leveling system, Trainers unlock Lure Modules at Level 6 and earn a total of 18 modules across 11 level-up milestones: one each at Levels 6, 15, 25, 35, 45, 49, 59, and 69, two at Level 55, three at Level 65, and five at Level 75.

Eligible Research tasks, event reward tracks such as GO Pass milestones, and high placements in PokéStop Showcases can also award the item. Event duration bonuses apply according to that event's rules, so place your Lure Module during the active bonus window when a longer timer is offered.

Shared encounters and the Picnicker medal

Under normal conditions, an active Lure Module spawns a Pokémon approximately once every 3 minutes, generating 10 encounters over its standard 30-minute duration—half the spawn rate of special Lure Modules, which attract a Pokémon roughly every 90 seconds. Lure encounters are separate from the ordinary wild Pokémon around the PokéStop, and catching a lured Pokémon does not remove that spawn for other Trainers who can still see it. Shiny status is determined individually for each Trainer who starts an encounter.

When other Trainers catch Pokémon attracted by a Lure Module you placed, their catches count toward your Picnicker medal, which progresses through Bronze (5 catches), Silver (25), Gold (500), and Platinum (2,500). Because earning Platinum medals is a required level-up task between Levels 71 and 80 in the current leveling system, placing Lure Modules at busy, accessible PokéStops is a practical way to support both shared catching and long-term progression. Your Trainer name remains visible on the active lure while the timer runs.

A standard Lure Module attracts general wild spawns and does not enable the proximity evolutions provided by Glacial, Mossy, Magnetic, or Rainy Lure Modules. Use the matching special module when evolving a Pokémon is your primary goal; the related guides on this page list each module's eligible species and requirements.
