Shadow Talonflame is barely an improvement over Shadow Fletchinder in terms of stats, and this popular Pokémon remains useless in PvE battles. Yes, the Shadow boost does hardly anything.
Fire/Flying? Try Charizard, Moltres, or Ho-Oh.

🔵 Great League
Shadow Talonflame is a sidegrade to regular Talonflame in the shielded scenarios of Great League, as in all moveset combos (Fly/Brave Bird, Flame Charge/Brave Bird & Fly/Flame Charge), the regular variant performs a bit better thanks to higher bulk.
Overall, the two variants exchange a few wins and losses. For instance, in the (1-1), regular Talonflame can beat Shadow Drapion and Shadow Primeape while Shadow Talonflame gets Cradily and regular Primeape.
However, in the (0-0), Shadow Talonflame takes out the mighty Shadow Drapion, which regular Talonflame can’t.
Apples and oranges, Trainer.
🟡 Ultra League
It’s the same story in the Ultra League as well as the Shadow and regular forms of Talonflame are sidegrades of each other. In the (1-1) scenario, regular Talonflame is better, grabbing victories over Pangoro, Samurott, and Ampharos, something Shadow Talonflame can’t.
However, Shadow Talonflame turns the tables in the (0-0) scenario, beating Cobalion and Malamar, which regular Talonflame is unable to achieve.
🟣 Master League
Shadow Talonflame can’t handle the heat of the Master League. A few wins don’t justify its usage over a Legendary like Ho-Oh.
💎The best PvP moves for Shadow Talonflame are Incinerate, Fly and Brave Bird.
