Ground is one of the strongest offensive forces since it is super-effective against five Pokémon types (Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, and Steel), and when it comes to the highest Ground-type damage in Pokémon GO, no attacker is as dominant as Primal Groudon.
Aside from having a monstrous ATK stat of 352, Primal Groudon also wields its signature Precipice Blades, a nuke-level Charged Attack that blows all other Ground-type attacks out of the competition.
Being a Primal Forme, this behemoth boosts the attacks of other Pokémon in the Raid (just like Mega Evolutions), but it takes this gimmick a step further by not just boosting Ground, but also Fire- and Grass-type attacks by a whopping 30% in damage output. That's not all, as it also boosts the damage figures of all other trainers by a neat 10%. Note that it does these boosts without even being on the battlefield. Even if you have Primal Groudon in your Raid Party, you achieve these boosts!
Therefore, against Rock and Steel Raid Bosses, Primal Groudon is a marvelous tool to pump up the powers of your Grass and Fire counters respectively, apart from the obvious Ground boost.
Speaking of Steel, Primal Groudon also has Fire Punch, a cheap but useful Charged Attack that may come in clutch against Steel-type Raid Bosses when it is unable to launch Precipice Blades. 🔥
Ironically, the closest competitor to Primal Groudon’s carnage is Shadow Groudon. Primal Groudon does around 6% more damage than the Shadow, but it's also way bulkier. If you're looking to solo against Tier 5 Raid Bosses like Xurkitree, go with Primal Groudon.
- Is Primal Groudon future proof?
As a pure Ground type, Primal Groudon is theoretically the best there is and the best there will be. However, there's some stiff competition in certain practical scenarios.
Against Electric-type Raid Bosses using Electric-type attacks, Mega Garchomp feels smoother to use thanks to its triple resistance to Electric attacks (courtesy of the Dragon/Ground typing). While Primal Groudon still deals more DPS, you don't have to worry about dodging the Boss’ attacks with Mega Garchomp. So overall, Mega Garchomp may be more efficient.
Mega Zygarde has a higher ATK than Primal Groudon, and even with Dragon Tail and Earthquake, it dishes out more damage than Primal Groudon. As such, Mega Zygarde would be preferable against the likes of Bosses weak to both Dragon and Ground such as Reshiram, Zekrom, Mega Charizard X, Miraidon, and Raging Bolt. Not to mention, Zygarde doesn't learn its signature Ground attacks like Thousand Arrows, Thousand Waves, and Land’s Wrath yet in Pokémon GO.
If any of these attacks are treated even decently well on their debut, Mega Zygarde would further surpass Primal Groudon as the best Ground type in Pokémon GO.
Regardless of Mega Zygarde’s power and potential, and Mega Garchomp’s handy triple resistance to Electric-type attacks, Primal Groudon will always remain one of the strongest Ground types and an overall powerful Pokémon in the game, boasting exceptional neutral damage in Sunny in-game weather.
This is one of the best Pokémon to max out and/or use a Golden Bottle Cap on. If you're lucky enough to end up with a 100 IV Primal Groudon, rest assured that this monster will remain one of your premier attackers in the meta. 🏆
