Overview

A Max Particle Pack is a consumable item in your Item Bag that grants 800 Max Particles when opened. It lets you replenish your spendable balance for Max Battles and Max Move upgrades after you hit the daily collection limit or when you cannot visit enough Power Spots.

Holding a pack in your bag is not the same as having those particles ready to spend: you must redeem the pack before a battle or upgrade, and you can only open one while your current balance is below the 1,500 Max Particle storage threshold.

How to get it

  • Purchase individual packs or bundles in the in-game shop with PokéCoins or through the Pokémon GO Web Store.

  • Earn packs from Research and GO Pass reward tracks or as a level-up reward at Trainer Level 75 under the current leveling system, and check pack counts on event bundles before buying.

How to use it

  1. Open the pack from your Item Bag when your active balance is below the 1,500 Max Particle carry limit.

  2. Review your current balance and the game’s claim confirmation before redeeming it.

Worth knowing

Keep the distinction between a stored pack and your spendable balance in mind when planning Max Battles, and remember that holding the maximum of 12 packs prevents you from claiming research rewards or bundles that include another pack.

Opening one does not activate a Max Mushroom damage boost or upgrade a Max Move; those are separate actions.

A stored pack and a spendable balance are different

Opening a pack grants 800 Max Particles, which is enough to pay the particle cost of either one 800-particle Max Battle victory or one Level 3 Max Move upgrade, but not both. Max Particles are only deducted when you defeat a Max Battle boss rather than when you enter the lobby.

If you spend those 800 Max Particles to upgrade a Pokémon's Max Move to Level 3 (after unlocking Level 1 for 400 Max Particles and Candy, and upgrading to Level 2 for 600 Max Particles and Candy), you still need 40 to 55 Candy XL for standard Pokémon, while Eternatus also requires Stardust.

Particles redeemed from Max Particle Packs, research tasks, and promo codes are tracked separately from the standard 800 Max Particle daily collection limit earned through Power Spots (100 Max Particles plus a 20-particle bonus on your first visit to that spot) and walking (300 Max Particles per 2 km, resetting at 5:00 a.m. local time).

Unlike research and promo code rewards, which can be claimed even when your balance is full, a Max Particle Pack in your bag cannot be opened once you are at or above 1,500 Max Particles. Always check your active balance and your next planned upgrade or battle cost before opening a pack.

Shop, holding limit, and rewards

You can hold at most 12 Max Particle Packs in your Item Bag at a time. If you already hold 12 packs, the game blocks you from buying bundles or claiming Timed or Special Research reward pages that include another Max Particle Pack until you drop below 1,500 active Max Particles and open enough packs to free up bag space. Max Particle Packs debuted in September 2024 alongside Dynamax and Max Battles.

Standard in-game shop listings offer one pack for 150 PokéCoins, while the three-pack bundle is priced at 425 PokéCoins in the shop (though some reference tables list 450 PokéCoins); event boxes and Pokémon GO Web Store offers—such as standalone six-pack bundles yielding 4,800 Max Particles or Ultra Ticket Boxes with bonus packs—vary by promotion.

Packs do not require spending real money: you can buy shop offers with PokéCoins earned from defending Gyms, claim packs from Research and GO Pass reward tracks, or earn one as a level-up reward at Trainer Level 75 under the current leveling system.

Redeeming a pack and budgeting its contents

To open a Max Particle Pack, your active balance must be below the 1,500 Max Particle storage threshold (which was raised from the original 1,000-particle cap on May 19, 2025). Because this threshold acts as a soft cap on redemption, opening a pack grants the full 800 Max Particles even if the resulting total exceeds 1,500.

For example, if you hold 1,480 Max Particles and open one pack, your balance increases by 800 to 2,280 Max Particles. Once your balance is at or above 1,500 Max Particles, you cannot open another pack or collect particles from walking or Power Spots until you spend enough particles to drop back below 1,500. Redeeming a pack never counts against your 800 Max Particle daily free-collection limit from walking and Power Spots.

Because Max Particles are only spent when you win a Max Battle, one pack's 800 Max Particles can fund three Tier 1 victories (250 Max Particles each, leaving 50 Max Particles remaining), two Tier 2 or Tier 3 victories (400 Max Particles each), or a single Tier 4, Tier 5, or Tier 6 Gigantamax or Eternamax victory (800 Max Particles).

Unlocking or leveling up Max Moves draws from the exact same particle balance, so avoid spending your redeemed particles on a move upgrade right before joining a high-tier battle lobby.

When buying with PokéCoins, a single Max Particle Pack costs 150 PokéCoins. In the in-game shop, the three-pack bundle is listed at 425 PokéCoins—a 25-PokéCoin discount compared to buying three individual packs for 450 PokéCoins, or roughly 141.67 PokéCoins per pack—though some published reference tables record the three-pack price without a discount at 450 PokéCoins. Always check the current in-game price and compare event boxes or Web Store bundles by their actual pack count and other included items.
