Overview

Lunar Fusion Energy is a fusion resource that combines Necrozma with Lunala to form Dawn Wings Necrozma. It is the counterpart to Solar Fusion Energy (which fuses Necrozma with Solgaleo into Dusk Mane Necrozma) and is tracked on Necrozma's summary page rather than taking up space in your Item Bag. Unlike Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion, Dawn Wings Necrozma stays fused permanently until you choose to separate it, and you can have multiple Dawn Wings Necrozma fused at the same time.

Alongside 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, you must have both a Necrozma and an eligible Lunala in your storage, plus 30 Necrozma Candy and 30 Cosmog Candy.

How to get it

  • Defeat Dawn Wings Necrozma in five-star Fusion Raids when it is featured during events (typically awarding 80 to 170 Lunar Fusion Energy per raid).

  • Complete featured Special Research or redeem event promotional codes when offered. Solar Fusion Energy and other Fusion Energies cannot be substituted for Lunar Fusion Energy.

How to use it

  1. Keep both Necrozma and Lunala in your Pokémon storage (making sure Lunala is not currently set as your Buddy), open Necrozma's summary page, and tap Fuse next to Dawn Wings Necrozma.

  2. Dawn Wings Necrozma remains fused indefinitely until you tap Separate on its summary screen, which restores both Pokémon at no cost.

Worth knowing

Fusing Necrozma with Lunala automatically teaches Dawn Wings Necrozma the Ghost-type Charged Attack Moongeist Beam, which also unlocks its nighttime Adventure Effect.

Separating Dawn Wings Necrozma is free, but fusing it again requires another 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy. Unlike Mega Energy or Primal Energy, Lunar Fusion Energy cannot be earned by walking a Buddy.

Choose the primary Pokémon before paying the fusion cost

Dawn Wings Necrozma inherits its Individual Values (IVs), Pokémon level, and Shiny status strictly from Necrozma, not from Lunala. A high-IV or Shiny Lunala will not improve the stats or change the appearance of the fused form, so always inspect your Necrozma appraisals before spending your Lunar Fusion Energy.

Any power-ups, attack changes, or nickname edits applied to Dawn Wings Necrozma remain with Necrozma if you later separate the pair. Lunala returns in the exact state it had before fusion, so powering up the fused form never levels up both Pokémon at once.

Unfusing Dawn Wings Necrozma costs zero Lunar Fusion Energy and zero Candy, but fusing it again requires the full 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy—even if you reunite the exact same Necrozma and Lunala. Two separate fusion operations therefore consume 2,000 Lunar Fusion Energy in total. This differs from Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta, which follow their own rules for subsequent form changes.

Fusion, separation, and restrictions

Each fusion consumes 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy. Lunar Fusion Energy is stored on Necrozma's summary page and does not occupy Item Bag slots. You earn it by defeating Dawn Wings Necrozma in five-star Fusion Raids—which typically award between 80 and 170 Lunar Fusion Energy per raid—or by completing featured Special Research.

Necrozma can be fused even while it is set as your active Buddy, retaining its Buddy affection and Candy progress. However, Lunala cannot be fused while set as your active Buddy; you must swap it out of the Buddy slot first. In addition, Shadow and Purified Pokémon cannot be fused, and a fused Dawn Wings Necrozma cannot be traded, transferred to Professor Willow, or sent to Pokémon HOME until you separate it.

Debut and signature attack

Dawn Wings Necrozma and Lunar Fusion Energy debuted during Pokémon GO Fest 2024 (beginning with the Sendai in-person event in May 2024 and the global event in July 2024), and have returned in subsequent events such as Necrozma Fusion Raid Day in December 2024 and Into the Wild in November 2025.

When Necrozma fuses with Lunala, it automatically learns the signature Charged Attack Moongeist Beam (230 power in Gyms and raids; 135 power in Trainer Battles). Moongeist Beam cannot be taught using a regular Charged TM or an Elite Charged TM.

What you keep after the raid

Defeating Dawn Wings Necrozma in a five-star Fusion Raid rewards you with Lunar Fusion Energy and starts a catch encounter with unfused Necrozma, not Lunala or Dawn Wings Necrozma. Because the fused form's appearance comes from the base Pokémon, fusing a Shiny Necrozma produces a Shiny Dawn Wings Necrozma regardless of whether Lunala is Shiny.

Choose a Lunala you can leave committed to this pair. To use it independently again, you must separate the fusion, and restoring Dawn Wings afterward costs another 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy plus both Candy payments.

Moongeist Beam outside battle

Dawn Wings Necrozma can use Moongeist Beam's Adventure Effect outside of battle by spending 3,000 Stardust and 3 Necrozma Candy for 10 minutes of nighttime conditions. While active, it attracts nighttime Pokémon encounters to your location (including species such as Alolan Marowak, Galarian Zigzagoon, Lunatone, Munna, Amaura, and Rockruff that can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc) and lets you perform nighttime-only evolutions even during the daytime.

You can extend the timer in 10-minute increments for up to 2 hours per use, and repeat activations up to a maximum of 24 hours at a time.

Moongeist Beam's Adventure Effect cannot run at the same time as any other Adventure Effect, regular Incense, Daily Adventure Incense, the Mystery Box, or the Coin Bag. Activating or extending the Adventure Effect uses only Stardust and Necrozma Candy, never Lunar Fusion Energy.
