Overview

An Elite Charged TM is a training item that lets you choose a specific Charged Attack from an eligible list instead of rerolling at random like a regular Charged TM. Its selectable pool includes standard Charged Attacks along with most Community Day, Raid Day, and legacy attacks belonging to that exact species and form. Using the item replaces a move in an existing Charged Attack slot rather than unlocking a second slot, and it cannot teach every special attack in the game.

Always inspect the offered move list on the selection screen before confirming the replacement.

How to get it

  • Selected GO Battle League rewards, research, level-up rewards, and event shop boxes provide Elite TMs.

  • Check the actual reward track; regular raid drops should not be assumed to include Elite TMs.

  • The current leveling system awards an Elite Charged TM at Trainer Level 50. Seasonal GO Battle League rewards, Timed and Special Research, GO Pass tracks, and eligible shop boxes offer other routes.

How to use it

  1. Select the Elite Charged TM from your Item Bag, choose the Pokémon and the attack slot to replace, then review the offered moves. Select the desired attack and confirm Teach Attack.

  2. If the Pokémon knows two Charged Attacks, choose which slot to replace.

Worth knowing

Save this scarce item for an attack that is actually unavailable through an ordinary TM or an accessible evolution event.

Frustration can only be removed during eligible Rocket events, even with an Elite TM. Return can be removed, but cannot be restored with an Elite TM.

Check the move list first

An Elite Charged TM does not make every attack in the game available at all times. Moves tied to special items or form changes—such as Dragon Ascent on Rayquaza—follow their own acquisition rules, and certain signature Adventure Effect attacks like Roar of Time on Origin Forme Dialga and Spacial Rend on Origin Forme Palkia are normally excluded outside of specifically announced event windows.

Because the game shows the exact selectable pool before consuming the item, the selection screen is your final check before spending the Elite Charged TM.

Exclusive moves and special acquisition rules

Most event-exclusive Charged Attacks can be taught with an Elite Charged TM, but attacks tied to special items or form transformations sit outside the standard pool. Rayquaza requires a Meteorite to learn Dragon Ascent rather than an Elite Charged TM. Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma learn Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam automatically upon fusing and cannot relearn them with an Elite Charged TM if removed.

Similarly, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem cannot learn Freeze Shock or Ice Burn directly from an Elite Charged TM; instead, base Kyurem must know Glaciate—which can be taught to base Kyurem with an Elite Charged TM—before fusing with Zekrom or Reshiram to convert Glaciate into Freeze Shock or Ice Burn.

Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta also follow transformation rules: each must know the regular Charged Attack Iron Head before changing form, which converts Iron Head into Behemoth Blade or Behemoth Bash, and neither signature move can be taught or replaced with a Charged TM.

How you manage your Pokémon's two Charged Attack slots also matters. An Elite Charged TM only replaces a move in an existing slot; it does not pay the Stardust and Candy cost required to unlock the second Charged Attack slot. If your Pokémon already has two Charged Attacks, double-check which slot you select so you do not overwrite a useful move you want to keep.

Frustration and Return need separate planning

An Elite TM does not bypass Frustration’s event restriction. During an eligible Rocket event, an ordinary Charged TM is enough to remove Frustration, allowing you to reserve the Elite item for a specific exclusive attack afterward.

Return can be replaced without that event window, but the change is irreversible: a TM cannot teach Return back. Decide whether the Purified Pokémon’s intended moveset needs it before replacing it.

Choosing an exclusive attack

Meteor Mash on Metagross is a classic example of when to use an Elite Charged TM. If you already have a strong Metagross without its signature Steel-type move, an Elite Charged TM can teach it Meteor Mash immediately. However, if you are still holding onto a Beldum or Metang and an announced event featuring Meteor Mash upon evolution is approaching, compare the value of waiting to evolve during that event against spending a scarce Elite Charged TM.

The attack list belongs to the exact species and form you selected. The item cannot give Metagross another species’ signature move. It also cannot teach a second copy of an attack already known in the other slot.

Seasonal GO Battle League rewards and its separately claimed free Timed Research Pass are recurring opportunities. Read the current season’s requirements and claim research rewards before expiry. Do not assume an Elite Charged TM is part of the ordinary random item reward from each battle set.
