Overview

Crowned Shield Energy is a species-specific resource used to transform Zamazenta from its Hero of Many Battles form into its Crowned Shield form. The first transformation for a given Zamazenta costs 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy and 30 Zamazenta Candy, and requires the Pokémon to know the Charged Attack Iron Head. Upon transforming, Iron Head is replaced by the signature Charged Attack Behemoth Bash, and subsequent switches between forms for that specific Zamazenta are free.

Zacian’s Crowned Sword Energy is a separate resource and cannot be used in place of Crowned Shield Energy.

How to get it

  • Defeat Crowned Shield Zamazenta in five-star raids when available (typically awarding 80 to 110 Crowned Shield Energy depending on raid completion speed).

  • Complete selected event Special Research or redeem promotional codes when offered.

How to use it

  1. Select a Hero of Many Battles Zamazenta that knows the Charged Attack Iron Head, then use the form-change option on its summary screen.

  2. Iron Head becomes the Charged Attack Behemoth Bash while Zamazenta is in its Crowned Shield form.

Worth knowing

Once an individual Zamazenta has transformed into its Crowned Shield form for the first time, switching that same Pokémon between Hero of Many Battles and Crowned Shield forms costs no additional Crowned Shield Energy.

Unlocking the Crowned Shield form on one Zamazenta applies only to that individual; each additional Zamazenta you wish to transform requires its own 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy and 30 Zamazenta Candy.

First transformation and later use

Transforming a Hero of Many Battles Zamazenta into its Crowned Shield form for the first time requires 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy and 30 Zamazenta Candy. Once unlocked on that specific Zamazenta, you can toggle it between Hero of Many Battles and Crowned Shield forms at no further energy cost. Its Charged Attack Iron Head automatically becomes Behemoth Bash in Crowned Shield form and reverts to Iron Head whenever you return the Pokémon to its Hero of Many Battles form.

Although Crowned Shield Zamazenta cannot Dynamax or Gigantamax, it can participate in Max Battles. In these battles, Behemoth Bash functions as its Max Attack, and unlocking its Guard Max Move grants an extra defensive bonus that lets Zamazenta start the battle with an initial shield. While in its Crowned Shield form, Zamazenta cannot be traded to another Trainer or transferred to Pokémon HOME.

The form and its energy debuted during Pokémon GO Fest 2025 through branching Special Research and five-star raids, accompanied by limited-time promotional codes that awarded 50 Crowned Shield Energy each.

Energy capacity

You can hold up to 9,999 Crowned Shield Energy at a time. Because this energy is tracked directly on Zamazenta's summary page rather than stored as a standard item, it does not take up space in your Item Bag, and purchasing Item Bag upgrades will not increase the 9,999 cap.

What the energy unlocks

Defeating Crowned Shield Zamazenta in five-star raids rewards you with Crowned Shield Energy and starts an encounter with Zamazenta in its Hero of Many Battles form. You can spend your accumulated Crowned Shield Energy on any eligible Hero of Many Battles Zamazenta in your collection that knows Iron Head; you do not have to use it on the specific individual caught from that raid.

Outside of battle, Crowned Shield Zamazenta can activate Behemoth Bash's Adventure Effect to boost your Pokémon's defense in raids and Max Battles. Activating the effect costs 5,000 Stardust and 5 Zamazenta Candy for 6 minutes—with the option to extend the timer in 6-minute increments—and does not consume any Crowned Shield Energy. While active, this Adventure Effect applies a 1.1× defense multiplier (a 10% damage reduction) in raids and a 1.05× defense multiplier (a 5% damage reduction) in Max Battles.

Unlocking the Crowned Shield form and upgrading Zamazenta for Max Battles require separate resources. After spending 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy and 30 Zamazenta Candy on the initial transformation, leveling up Behemoth Bash as a Max Attack—or unlocking and upgrading its Guard and Spirit Max Moves—costs Max Particles and additional Zamazenta Candy rather than more Crowned Shield Energy. Keep in mind that reverting Zamazenta to its Hero of Many Battles form does not refund the original 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy.
