Overview

Solar Fusion Energy is a dedicated fusion resource that joins Necrozma with Solgaleo to create Dusk Mane Necrozma. It is stored on Necrozma's summary page rather than in your Item Bag, and it cannot be replaced with Lunar Fusion Energy, other Fusion Energy types, or Mega Energy. There is no numeric Trainer-level requirement to hold or spend Solar Fusion Energy under the current leveling system; you only need the required Pokémon, 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy.

Unlike Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion, fusion is permanent until you manually separate the Pokémon, and multiple Dusk Mane Necrozma can remain fused at the same time.

How to get it

  • Defeat Dusk Mane Necrozma in 5-star Fusion Raids during featured events to earn 80 to 170 Solar Fusion Energy per raid, alongside Necrozma Candy and Cosmog Candy.

  • Complete selected event Special Research or Timed Research when available; it cannot be earned by walking a Buddy or substituted with Lunar Fusion Energy or Mega Energy.

How to use it

  1. Have both Necrozma and Solgaleo in your Pokémon storage (making sure Solgaleo is not your active Buddy), open Necrozma's summary page, and tap Fuse next to the Dusk Mane option.

  2. Dusk Mane Necrozma stays fused permanently until you tap Separate on its summary page; separation is free and returns both Pokémon, though fusing again costs the full amount.

Worth knowing

Fusing Necrozma with Solgaleo automatically teaches Dusk Mane Necrozma the Steel-type Charged Attack Sunsteel Strike, which also unlocks a daytime Adventure Effect.

Prioritize your best Necrozma before paying 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy: Dusk Mane Necrozma takes its IVs, level, and Shiny status strictly from Necrozma, not Solgaleo.

Choose the primary Pokémon before paying the fusion cost

Dusk Mane Necrozma inherits its IVs, level, Shiny status, Lucky status, and Buddy progress strictly from the base Necrozma. A high appraisal, high level, or Shiny status on the partner Solgaleo does not affect Dusk Mane Necrozma's stats or appearance. One exception applies to Special Backgrounds: fusing a Necrozma that has the GO Fest 2024 Wormhole Special Background with a Solgaleo that has the Radiant Sun Special Background creates a unique combined Special Background on Dusk Mane Necrozma.

If only Necrozma has a Special Background, it keeps that background; if only Solgaleo has one, it will not display while fused.

Any power-ups applied to Dusk Mane Necrozma stay with the base Necrozma if you later separate the pair, while Solgaleo returns at its original level. In addition, Necrozma can be fused while it is your active Buddy and retains all Buddy affection and distance progress, whereas Solgaleo cannot be selected for fusion while it is your current Buddy—you must swap it out first.

Tapping Separate on Dusk Mane Necrozma's summary page costs 0 Solar Fusion Energy and 0 Candy, returning both Necrozma and Solgaleo to your storage. However, there is no cooldown discount for previously fused Pokémon. Fusing the same pair a second time requires another 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy—meaning two separate fusions consume 2,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 60 Necrozma Candy, and 60 Cosmog Candy in total.

This differs from Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield forms, which follow their own rules for subsequent form changes.

Fusion, separation, and restrictions

Each fusion spends 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy. Because Solar Fusion Energy is tracked directly on Necrozma's summary page, it never takes up space in your Item Bag. You can earn between 80 and 170 Solar Fusion Energy—along with Cosmog Candy and Necrozma Candy—each time you defeat Dusk Mane Necrozma in a 5-star Fusion Raid, meaning it takes roughly 6 to 13 completed raids to collect 1,000 energy from scratch.

Unlike Mega Energy, you cannot earn Solar Fusion Energy by walking Necrozma, Solgaleo, or Dusk Mane Necrozma as your Buddy.

Once fused, Dusk Mane Necrozma cannot be traded, transferred to the Professor, or sent to Pokémon HOME until you separate it back into Necrozma and Solgaleo. Shadow and Purified Pokémon are not eligible for fusion.

Event availability and signature attack

Solar Fusion Energy and Dusk Mane Necrozma debuted at Pokémon GO Fest 2024, beginning with ticketed Special Research at the in-person events in Sendai, Madrid, and New York City before launching worldwide in 5-star raids and the ticketed Special Research The Dusk Settles on July 14, 2024. Promotional web codes released ahead of GO Fest 2024 Global for 100 Solar Fusion Energy each have long expired.

Since its debut, Dusk Mane Necrozma has returned to raids during special events including Necrozma Fusion Raid Day on December 14, 2024, the Into the Wild event on November 12, 2025, and the Road of Legends event on July 8, 2026.

Outside featured events, Solar Fusion Energy cannot be obtained. When fused, Dusk Mane Necrozma automatically learns the Steel-type Charged Attack Sunsteel Strike (135 power in Trainer Battles and 230 power in Gyms and raids), which cannot be taught with regular or Elite Charged TMs.

Choose a pair you can keep fused

Defeating Dusk Mane Necrozma in a raid starts an encounter with ordinary Necrozma, not Dusk Mane Necrozma or Solgaleo. You must obtain Solgaleo separately by evolving Cosmoem with 100 Cosmog Candy during the daytime or via dedicated research encounters. Because Shiny status comes solely from the base Pokémon, getting a Shiny Dusk Mane Necrozma requires fusing a Shiny Necrozma; fusing an ordinary Necrozma with a Shiny Solgaleo produces a non-Shiny Dusk Mane Necrozma.

Because fused partners remain locked together until separated, keeping both Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma active in your roster at the same time requires two separate Necrozma, one Solgaleo, and one Lunala. Across both fusions, budget 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 60 Necrozma Candy, and 60 Cosmog Candy.

What Sunsteel Strike does outside battle

Knowing Sunsteel Strike lets Dusk Mane Necrozma activate an Adventure Effect outside battle for 3,000 Stardust and 3 Necrozma Candy per 10 minutes. While active, the effect harnesses sunlight to attract daytime-spawning Pokémon—including a chance to encounter Rockruff that can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc—and allows daytime-only evolutions even at night. You can extend the timer in 10-minute increments up to 2 hours per activation, and up to 24 hours in total.

Sunsteel Strike's Adventure Effect cannot be active at the same time as another Adventure Effect, Incense, Daily Adventure Incense, the Mystery Box, or the Coin Bag. Using the Adventure Effect spends only Stardust and Necrozma Candy, never Solar Fusion Energy.
