PvE Analysis
Recommended moves
- Dragon Attacker:
Dragon Tail
Breaking Swipe - Ground Attacker:
Mud Shot
Earth Power *
Shadow Garchomp is a dominant Pokémon in both the Dragon and Ground categories. With high damage figures and respectable bulk even after the Shadow nerf, this is one of those Shadow Pokémon you should definitely invest in.
⚔️ Raids
In the Dragon department, Shadow Garchomp is behind Eternatus, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Garchomp, Shadow Salamence, and Shadow Palkia in DPS. At the same time, it possesses the highest TDO of all Shadow Dragons in the game, making it a hard-hitting and relatively bulky PvE Pokémon.
In the Ground-type department, Shadow Garchomp is amazing but is surpassed by Mega Garchomp. Shadow Garchomp is also quite bulky, overtaking Landorus Therian in TDO. This way, you can use Shadow Garchomp in Raids without worrying too much about its bulk, especially against Electric-type Raid Bosses.
🛡️ Gyms
With lower bulk than regular Garchomp and a glaring double weakness to Ice-type attacks, Shadow Garchomp should ideally be left out of Gym defense.

Earth Power
Shadow Garchomp is too underwhelming for the lower PvP Leagues and gets a shade of functionality in the Master League. Sadly, you'll end up being disappointed with the nerfed Dragon Tail and the nerfed Breaking Swipe, which was added to Garchomp’s movepool following the Tales of Transformation GBL update.
Pre nerf Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe would have made Shadow Garchomp a monster but sadly, it ends up underperforming. The Mud Shot, Earth Power, and Breaking Swipe set looks good on paper but then Zygarde Complete exists and other Dragon and Ground Pokémon edge out Shadow Garchomp in this role. Even a barrage of Dragon Breath spam may seem too overbearing for Shadow Garchomp.
Adding Dragon Breath to its arsenal or a new move like Dragon Rush or Scale Shot could save it in the future, but for now, avoid using any Garchomp (Shadow or regular) in PvP.
💎 The best PvP moves for Shadow Garchomp are Dragon Tail/Mud Shot, Breaking Swipe and Earth Power.
