Overview

A Revive is a medicine item that brings one fainted Pokémon back from 0 HP and restores half (50%) of its maximum HP. Once revived, the Pokémon can enter Raid Battles, Gym battles, Max Battles, or Team GO Rocket battles again immediately, or be assigned to defend a Gym.

Because a Revive leaves the Pokémon with half of its health missing, you will usually pair it with a Potion, Super Potion, Hyper Potion, or Max Potion to finish healing before a tough fight, or use a Max Revive when you want to revive and restore 100% HP in a single step.

How to get it

  • Spin Gym and PokéStop Photo Discs and open Gifts from friends once you unlock Revives at Trainer Level 5.

  • Earn Revives from Raid Battles, Field, Timed, or Special Research, end-of-Route rewards (unlocked at Level 7), and free GO Pass reward tracks. In the current leveling system, level-up rewards grant 85 Revives in total between Levels 5 and 29 (5 at Levels 5, 8, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 27, and 29, and 10 at Milestone Levels 10, 20, and 25) before Max Revives replace them at Level 30.

  • Eligible Max Battle and Team GO Rocket Leader rewards can also provide recovery items.

  • A buddy at Great Buddy level or higher can bring presents that include recovery supplies.

How to use it

  1. Open your Item Bag (or use the pre-battle lobby screen), select Revive, and tap a fainted Pokémon to restore half of its maximum HP, or tap Revive All to revive every fainted Pokémon at once.

Worth knowing

A Revive followed by a Potion can prepare a fainted attacker for another raid. A Max Revive does both jobs in one item.

Trainer Battles do not leave persistent HP damage, so GO Battle League does not require healing supplies between matches.

Budget the healing that comes after revival

For a Pokémon with 160 maximum HP, a Revive returns it to 80 HP. Four basic Potions, two Super Potions, or one Hyper Potion can cover the remaining 80-HP injury. A Max Revive would have completed both revival and healing in one item. Choose according to your stocks and how quickly you need the team ready.

Several non-medicine mechanics can also bring a fainted Pokémon back from 0 HP when you are out of Revives. Evolving a fainted Pokémon, or activating Mega Evolution (unlocked at Level 18) or Primal Reversion, revives it and restores 100% of its HP.

In a pinch, powering up a fainted Pokémon increases its level by 0.5; whenever that Power Up raises its maximum HP by at least 1, its current HP also increases by that amount (typically 1 HP), reviving it so that standard Potions can heal the rest.

If a single half-level Power Up does not cross an integer HP rounding threshold, a second Power Up may be needed to gain 1 HP. Because evolving and powering up spend Stardust, Candy, or Evolution items permanently, treat them as emergency workarounds or pair them with upgrades you already planned to make.

Using the healing menu

Opening Revive from the Item Bag or a pre-battle lobby displays only fainted Pokémon at 0 HP. Tapping a single Pokémon spends one Revive, while tapping Revive All applies one Revive to each fainted Pokémon up to the number of Revives you hold. Revive All does not apply Potions afterward, leaving your newly revived team at 50% HP. Conscious Pokémon that have lost HP but have not fainted do not appear under Revive and must be healed through the Potion menu instead.

Planning a raid or Rocket session

Revives unlock at Trainer Level 5 in the current leveling system and remain a staple alongside Potions even after Max Revives unlock at Level 30. Keep Potions stocked with your Revives so you can top off revived attackers, and prioritize reviving the battle party you need next when your medicine count runs low.

Pokémon knocked out while defending a Gym or battling Team GO Rocket Grunts, Leaders, and Giovanni also return at 0 HP and require a Revive before they can fight or defend a Gym again.

Winning an eligible Raid Battle can replenish your Revives without requiring a paid Premium Battle Pass, since spinning a Gym Photo Disc grants a free daily Raid Pass for in-person raids. If your entire party faints during a raid, you can return to the lobby, use Revives and Potions, and rejoin the fight without spending another pass.

Keep in mind that raid reward bundles vary, and a difficult raid or long Team GO Rocket session can easily consume more Revives than the battle rewards return.
