Overview

A Max Potion is a medicine item that restores every missing point of HP to one conscious Pokémon. Because its recovery scales with the Pokémon’s maximum HP, it is especially efficient for high-HP Gym defenders and heavily injured raid, Team GO Rocket, or Max Battle teams. A Max Potion cannot wake a fainted Pokémon at 0 HP; use a Revive first, or use a Max Revive to revive the Pokémon and restore full HP in a single step.

How to get it

  • Spin Gym and PokéStop Photo Discs and open Gifts after unlocking Max Potions at Trainer Level 25.

  • Earn Max Potions from Raid Battles, Max Battles, Team GO Rocket Leader and Boss battles, Research tasks, and level-up rewards from Level 25 through Level 80.

  • Eligible Route completion and PokéStop Showcase rewards can supplement spins, Gifts, research, and battle rewards.

  • Purchase the standard bundle of 10 Max Potions for 200 PokéCoins in the in-game shop (official box discount calculations value a single Max Potion at 25 PokéCoins). Compare the price with free drops before buying.

How to use it

  1. Select Max Potion from the Items menu or a battle preparation lobby and tap a conscious Pokémon with missing HP, or tap Heal All to treat all eligible injured Pokémon at once. A fainted Pokémon must be revived first.

Worth knowing

Particularly efficient for very high-HP Pokémon. It offers no extra benefit over a smaller Potion when only a little HP is missing.

Trainer Battles do not leave persistent HP damage, so GO Battle League does not require healing supplies between matches.

Reserve full healing for large deficits

A Hyper Potion’s 200 HP is already enough to fully heal many conscious Pokémon. A Max Potion’s extra capacity matters most when the missing HP exceeds that amount.

For example, a Pokémon missing 240 HP needs one Max Potion, or a Hyper Potion followed by another suitable healing item. A Pokémon missing only 40 HP gains no additional HP from using Max Potion instead of Super Potion. The right choice depends on your inventory and how quickly you need to rejoin a battle.

Using the healing menu

Open Items from the Poké Ball menu—or tap the item icon inside a Gym, Raid, Team GO Rocket, or Max Battle lobby—select Max Potion, and choose an injured Pokémon. Each use heals one conscious Pokémon completely. Tapping Heal All consumes one Max Potion for each injured, conscious Pokémon until all eligible Pokémon are at full HP or you run out of Max Potions. Heal Pokémon individually if you only want to spend Max Potions on a specific battle team.

Max Potion, Max Revive, or Golden Razz?

Max Potion unlocks at Trainer Level 25 under the current leveling system (awarding 20 Max Potions at Level 25, with additional bundles up to Level 80). It heals a Pokémon that still has at least 1 HP, whereas Max Revive (unlocked at Level 30) is for a Pokémon that has fainted. For a fainted Pokémon with 300 maximum HP, an ordinary Revive restores half of its total HP (150 HP), after which a Hyper Potion’s 200 HP recovery already covers the remaining 150 HP injury.

A Max Potion also works, but its unlimited recovery is only strictly needed after an ordinary Revive if the Pokémon’s maximum HP exceeds 400.

A defender’s falling Gym CP comes from lost motivation, which berries restore. Max Potion is for the Pokémon’s missing HP after it is back in your collection. A Golden Razz Berry at the Gym and a Max Potion in your bag solve different problems.

Keeping a useful healing reserve

Count the Pokémon you regularly use in raids, Rocket battles, and Max Battles when deciding how much medicine to keep. A few Max Potions can cover large injuries efficiently, while an entirely fainted team also needs Revives. Spins, Gifts, research, and eligible battle rewards replenish supplies without requiring a shop purchase.
