Shadow Zekrom's Tier Ranking & Meta Analysis

    Read meta analysis

    Shadow Zekrom PvE Analysis

Shadow Zekrom makes an electrifying debut, immediately becoming the top Shadow Pokémon in the Electric-type meta. You'll need to teach it Fusion Bolt via an Elite Charged TM, but it's totally worth the investment, and here's why:

    As an Electric type

To give you a perspective of just how strong Charge Beam + Fusion Bolt Shadow Zekrom is... it is stronger than Mega Raichu Y with Wild Charge! Indeed, the addition of Charged Attacks for Mega Raichu Y and X is the only reason Shadow Zekrom doesn't arrive as the current best Electric Pokémon in the game. Unlike most regular Electric types, the Dragon subtyping of Shadow Zekrom helps it resist Water-type damage. As such, Shadow Zekrom is often easier to run against Water Raid Bosses, but do remember that many Water types tend to have an Ice-type Charged Attack for coverage, so be wary of that.

    As a Dragon Type

In this department, Shadow Zekrom is quite outclassed, even by Pseudo Legendaries such as Shadow Garchomp, Shadow Salamence, and Shadow Dragonite. Plus, those are cheaper and easier to power up as well. Don't use Shadow Zekrom as a Dragon-type attacker.

    🔵 Great League

    Not applicable

    🟡 Ultra League

Shadow Zekrom establishes itself as one of the most formidable Legendaries in the Ultra League, using its hard-hitting moves to take out big shots like Giratina (Altered Forme), Togekiss, Forretress, Corviknight, and Melmetal. Crunch and Wild Charge ensure that it deals a good damage output regardless of the shield situations, and with the Shadow boost in tow, it even beats Skeledirge, Lapras, and Malamar (no matter what moveset). One matchup that is white shocking (no pun intended) is Cresselia. While the regular form manages to beat it (although with little HP left), Shadow Zekrom convincingly loses in the same bout. Other than that, the Shadow form is pretty much a clear upgrade and threatens more than half of the Ultra League meta. ⚡

    🟣 Master League

Once again, Shadow Zekrom impresses, and claims a large share of the meta as its victims. Flying types such as Lugia, Togekiss, Yveltal, and Ho-Oh, Psychic types like Metagross, Lunala, both Necrozma fusions (but not Mewtwo), and most Water types are all a good set of wins. However, when it comes to Dragons, Shadow Zekrom loses to almost everything except Black Kyurem and Eternatus. So a teammate like Togekiss or Mamoswine is a sound idea.

In the moveset, Crunch is important and the decision for the Electric-type Charged move (between Fusion Bolt and Wild Charge) leans towards Wild Charge as it helps Shadow Zekrom beat Lugia. This Pokémon is undoubtedly a solid pickup for the Master League. 💯

Mega and Primal Raid Bonus –Mega Pokémon boost the attack power of all other Pokémon when battling in Raid Battles by 10%. Attacks that share their type with the Mega Pokémon's type(s) receive a 30% boost. However, these bonuses do not stack if there are multiple Mega-Evolved Pokémon battling simultaneously; only the higher boost will be applied.

Mega and Primal Catch Bonus –While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.
