- Electric Attacker:
Thunder Fang
Wild Charge
Despite its base form being pretty underwhelming, Mega Manectric is anything but! It has a strong Attack stat but is pretty lacking defensively, definitely not a full-on glass cannon but definitely on the squishy side. It is a pure Electric type, just like its base form. Let’s see how Mega Manectric fares in the Pokémon GO PVE meta!
A bit surprisingly, Electric type Mega Evolutions are extremely rare. There are only 3 species in total, with one being Mega Raichu that was only recently announced. Prior to this, only Mega Manectric and Mega Ampharos existed. Both play different roles in the PVE meta, so let’s see how they compare to each other.
As an Electric type attacker, Mega Manectric is useful against Water and Flying type Pokémon. While this is notably less type advantages than other single types, Water and Flying types are extremely common, and so many Legendary Pokémon have the Flying type tacked on, especially in earlier generations. Electric types defensively resist Electric and Flying moves, taking neutral damage from everything else except Super-Effective damage from Ground moves. It is currently placed 4th out of all Electric type attackers, behind only Shadow Raikou, Regieleki, and Xurkitree, all of which need a significant amount of investment and raids to train. Mega Manectric wins on accessibility!
This leads us back to our comparison. The major differences between Mega Manectric and Mega Ampharos comes from their typing, and to a lesser but still important extent their stats. While Mega Manectric is a pure Electric type, Mega Ampharos is a dual Electric/Dragon type. This gives Mega Ampharos some extra resistances in exchange for some more weaknesses, compared to Mega Manectric’s two of each. The notable one is Water, which allows Mega Ampharos to resist the two types you would want to use an Electric attacker against versus Mega Manectric only resisting Flying. To pair with this, Mega Ampharos has a much more defensive stat spread compared to Mega Manectric. Combined with the resistances, this results in Mega Ampharos being able to take hits much better in the situations you want to use it in, whereas Mega Manectric will deal more damage but will fall much faster. Mega Ampharos has higher TDO thanks to the survivability, but Mega Manectric is rated higher overall.
Based on what tends to be valued in Pokémon GO PVE, Mega Manectric is more valuable overall. It will dish out the damage you’re looking for much quicker than Mega Ampharos can. This is especially valuable when trying to solo a Raid Boss, as the instant damage is much more useful than survivability. Both Mega Evolutions have their roles to play, but Mega Manectric’s offensive prowess helps it take the crown.
Out of the currently available Raid Bosses, Mega Manectric doesn’t perform uniquely well against any, although it is an extremely good option anywhere an Electric type would be strong, against foes such as Kyogre/Primal Kyogre, Tornadus, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Pidgeot. It also has strong matchups against powerful Pokémon from later installments such as Iron Bundle and Fezandipiti. If you find yourself in need of an Electric type attacker, Mega Manectric is the way to go!
Overall, Mega Manectric performs exactly how you’d expect a strong Electric type to operate: hit hard, hit fast, and go down after a few attacks. Electric is a potent offensive type, meaning Mega Manectric will continue to have a spot in the PVE meta, especially due to the lack of other Electric Mega Evolution options. A shocking performance for sure!
PvP Analysis
Backed with Thunder Fang and Wild Charge, Mega Manectric boasts the highest Electric-type DPS when not accounting for Shadow Pokémon ⚡.
On the other hand, its bulk is rather underwhelming, so it cannot stay in the Raid battle long enough to keep the Electric-type Mega boost active.
⚔️ Raids - If dodging is your style and you're eager for a high-damage Electric-type option, Mega Manectric is the Pokémon to use! 🙌
🛡️ Gyms - Mega Evolutions cannot be placed in Gyms.
