Mega Raichu Y gives you the ultimate reason to evolve high IV Pikachu as it becomes the #1 Electric-type attacker right on its debut. An explosive ATK of 339 helps Mega Raichu Y surpass Thunder Cage Regieleki with the typical moveset of Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, dealing 7.7% more damage. But that's not all, as Mega Raichu Y is bulkier than Regieleki (even though it is a glass cannon itself) and more importantly, boosts the damage output of all its teammates in a Raid battle courtesy of being a Mega Evolution.
Mega Raichu Y is undoubtedly one of the most valuable Megas added to Pokémon GO in recent times, but you have to keep in mind that it is quite fragile and dodging is mandatory for optimal usage in combat.
Fast Attack
The best part is that Thunder Shock is a 0.5s Fast Attack, making it easy to dodge with Mega Raichu Y and blast the Raid Boss with quick successions of Wild Charge.
Charged Attack
Consider adding Thunder Punch as a second Charged Attack as in the occasions when Mega Raichu Y is about to faint and not in a position to fire off a Wild Charge, the 3-bar Thunder Punch comes to the rescue and helps this powerful attacker chip in some near damage before bidding adieu.
Is Mega Raichu Y future proof as an Electric-type attacker?
Technically, no, as Mega Zeraora will take the throne off Mega Raichu Y with 27% more damage. However, there's a crucial detail here. Zeraora is a Mythical Pokémon, so due its extremely limited accessibility, it's very challenging and expensive to farm Zeraora Candy and power it up.
On the other hand, with Pikachu’s wide availability including the frequent costume versions, many trainers are already brimming with Pikachu Candy. Moreover, it is way cheaper and easier to power up Raichu, also considering that its Buddy distance is only 1 km.
So while Mega Zeraora will top the Electric-type charts down the line, investing in a Mega Raichu Y is a safe, easy, and rewarding decision that makes it one of the best Pokémon to have in your team. As such, in a practical sense, it is highly recommended to power up and even max out a Mega Raichu Y, especially since it will remain a phenomenal attacker even years from now! ⚡

However, these bonuses do not stack if there are multiple Mega-Evolved Pokémon battling simultaneously; only the higher boost will be applied.
Mega and Primal Catch Bonus –While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.
Note on Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Rayquaza- Primal Kyogre boosts Water-, Electric- and Bug-type attacks and Pokémon.
