Mega Raichu Y gives you the ultimate reason to evolve high IV Pikachu as it becomes the #1 Electric-type attacker. An explosive ATK of 339 helps Mega Raichu Y surpass Shadow Zekrom, Zeraora, Xurkitree, and Thunder Cage Regieleki through the powerful moveset of Thunder Shock and Zap Cannon+. Quick note: With Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, it's just behind Shadow Zekrom, but still ahead of the rest!

Mega Raichu Y is undoubtedly one of the most valuable Megas added to Pokémon GO, but you have to keep in mind that it is quite fragile and dodging is mandatory for optimal usage in combat.

Fast Attack

The best part is that Thunder Shock is a 0.5s Fast Attack, making it easy to dodge with Mega Raichu Y and blast the Raid Boss with quick successions of Wild Charge.

Charged Attack

Zap Cannon+ is an explosive Charged Attack and makes Mega Raichu Y even deadlier than its amazing Wild Charge set. Consider adding Thunder Punch as a second Charged Attack as in the occasions when Mega Raichu Y is about to faint and not in a position to fire off a Wild Charge, the 3-bar Thunder Punch comes to the rescue and helps this powerful attacker chip in some near damage before bidding adieu.

Is Mega Raichu Y future proof as an Electric-type attacker?

Technically, no, as Mega Zeraora will take the throne off Mega Raichu Y with 9.57% more damage. Yes, with only Plasma Fists, Mega Zeraora will overtake Zap Cannon+ Mega Raichu! However, there's a crucial detail here. Zeraora is a Mythical Pokémon, so due its extremely limited accessibility, it's very challenging and expensive to farm Zeraora Candy and power it up.

On the other hand, with Pikachu’s wide availability including the frequent costume versions, many trainers are already brimming with Pikachu Candy. Moreover, it is way cheaper and easier to power up Raichu, also considering that its Buddy distance is only 1 km.

So while Mega Zeraora will top the Electric-type charts down the line, investing in a Mega Raichu Y is a safe, easy, and rewarding decision that makes it one of the best Pokémon to have in your team. As such, in a practical sense, it is highly recommended to power up and even max out a Mega Raichu Y, especially since it will remain a phenomenal attacker even years from now! ⚡

Mega Raichu Y PvP Analysis

Recommended moves

🔵 Mega Great League

Mega Raichu Y is phenomenal in the Mega Great League, blasting apart its competition through its quick and explosive moves. Except Kingdra and the infamous mud bois, Mega Raichu Y destroys all other Water types in this format (can still best the mud bois with Trailblaze in unshielded scenarios though!). In addition, it also takes down Mega Sableye, Shadow Snorlax, Mega Malamar, Mega Dragonite, and Thievul. In essence, Mega Raichu Y can take out half of the meta but even then, it is inferior to Mega Raichu X, which is one of the strongest Mega Evolutions in this platform!

🟡 Mega Ultra League

With the rise in more prominent threats, Mega Raichu Y loses steam in the Mega Ultra League. It's still dominant against Water and Flying types of course, and beats the likes of Cresselia, Shadow Annihilape, and Shadow Typhlosion, but against the rest of the meta, it can't handle the onslaught.

🟣 Mega Master League

Mega Raichu Y is at its worst in the Mega Master League, wherein hard-hitting Megas and Legendaries easily exploit its flimsy bulk. Ground types are quite prominent in this format, making it even more challenging for Mega Raichu Y.

Mega and Primal Raid Bonus –Mega Pokémon boost the attack power of all other Pokémon when battling in Raid Battles by 10%. Attacks that share their type with the Mega Pokémon's type(s) receive a 30% boost. However, these bonuses do not stack if there are multiple Mega-Evolved Pokémon battling simultaneously; only the higher boost will be applied.

Mega and Primal Catch Bonus –While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.
