      Black Kyurem in the meta

      Black Kyurem in the meta

      PvE AnalysisPvE Analysis

On some rare occasions, Pokémon GO introduces a monster that shakes up the game to its very core. Black Kyurem is one such addition. 💯

Powered up with a massive 310 ATK and good bulk, Black Kyurem is already a menace with the traditional Dragon Tail + Outrage move combo, but its signature move Freeze Shock is so powerful, it brings new meaning to damage output against targets weak to Dragon and/or Ice, as well as those taking neutral damage. 🐲❄️

      🌀 How to fuse Fusion

You can fuse Kyurem and Zekrom using 1000 Volt Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Zekrom Candy to get Black Kyurem. Your Kyurem must know its signature attack Glaciate for Black Kyurem to learn Freeze Shock.

      🌀 Adventure Effect: Freeze Shock

After fusing Zekrom with a Kyurem that knows the Charged Attack Glaciate, Glaciate will turn into the Charged Attack Freeze Shock. Freeze Shock will change back to Glaciate when Zekrom is separated from Kyurem.

Trainers can use 5,000 Stardust and 5 Kyurem Candy to activate Freeze Shock’s Adventure Effect, which casts electrically charged ice for 10 minutes. During this time, the Pokémon you encounter won’t be able to move, making them easier to catch. This also makes Pokémon easier to catch with connected accessory devices.

You can extend the Freeze Shock Adventure Effect timer in increments of 10 minutes by using more Stardust and Kyurem Candy. The timer can be extended up to two hours each time you tap Use, and you can tap Use again to add additional time—up to 24 hours total!

      ⚔️ Raids

Black Kyurem has cemented itself among the premier Raid attackers in Pokémon GO! 🏅

      • Dragon types that aren't weak to Ice but weak to Dragon (Dragon/Fire, Dragon/Water, and Dragon/Ice) should be hit with Dragon Tail + Outrage.
      • A majority of Dragon types are weak to both Dragon and Ice, with many being double-weak to Ice-type attacks. In such battles, Dragon Tail + Freeze Shock is the way to go.
      • Even though Black Kyurem lacks an Ice-type Fast Move, its raw DPS with Freeze Shock is so powerful that it can be used against Pokémon weak to Ice but not Dragon. This includes Flying, Grass, and Ground-type Raid Bosses.

      🛡️ Gyms

Legendaries cannot be placed in Gyms.

      PvE AnalysisPvP Analysis

      🔵 Great League - N/A

      🟡 Ultra League

Black Kyurem’s stats are highly inclined towards Attack, making it an awkward fit for the CP-restricted Ultra League format. This Pokémon is designed for the Master League only.

      🟣 Master League

Black Kyurem immediately breaks into the Master League by taking over as the new king of this format. 👑

An unreal stat product, a ridiculous 310 ATK that wins CMP almost always, and phenomenal coverage with a wide variety of moves… this Pokémon is unmatched. It beats just about everything, and very few opponents can take it down. These few Pokémon include Dragonite, Dialga and Palkia (both regular and Origin), Breaking Swipe Rhyperior (including Shadow), and Landorus Therian.

Just build a team around Black Kyurem with Pokémon that can handle the threats mentioned above (Primarina is a good contender), and you're more or less unbeatable in the Master League. 📈

💎 Black Kyurem’s best moveset for PvP is Shadow Claw, Freeze Shock, and Fusion Bolt.

      • Shadow Claw is preferred since it offers excellent coverage, even though it lacks STAB. You can still opt for Dragon Tail if you want to.
      • Fusion Bolt is cheap and helps deal with the Water and Flying-type threats commonly found in the Master League.
      • Freeze Shock is a stronger Outrage, with +10 DMG (total 120 DMG) at the same energy cost.

Mega and Primal Raid BonusMega Pokémon boost the attack power of all other Pokémon when battling in Raid Battles by 10%. Attacks that share their type with the Mega Pokémon's type(s) receive a 30% boost. However, these bonuses do not stack if there are multiple Mega-Evolved Pokémon battling simultaneously; only the higher boost will be applied.

Mega and Primal Catch BonusWhile a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

Note on Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Rayquaza
      • Primal Kyogre boosts Water-, Electric- and Bug-type attacks and Pokémon.

                Catch probability with multiple throws

In order to help Trainers understand their overall odds when catching Black Kyurem, we enable the functionality to showing the total chance to catch it depending on the number of available throws. We calculate this chance as if you repeated the same throw N-number of times.

To activate this functionality, change the number of Number of throws to a value greater than 1. The Number of throws option is available in the configuration options above the chart

                Catch rate formula

Pokémon GO catch rate formula can be expressed as follows:

                • CATCH_MULTIPLIERS = ball * curve * berry * throwType * (type1Medal + type2Medal / 2)
                • CATCH_RATE = 1 - Math.pow(1 - baseCatchRate / (2 * cpm), CATCH_MULTIPLIERS)

There are different multipliers that come into play when calculating catch rate.

Curved throws are more effective than regular throws, stronger types of Poké Ball have a higher catch rate, and using a Razz Berry or a Golden Razz Berry also improves your chances.
