Shadow Entei PvE Analysis

Recommended moves

While Shadow Entei is a great improvement over regular Entei, its DPS leaves a lot to be desired. For perspective, Shadow Entei deals less damage than Mega Charizard X and Reshiram, both of which are cheaper Fire Pokémon to power up. Even among Shadow Pokémon, a Shadow Charizard (whose Candy is very easy to collect) inflicts 1.6% more damage. Shadow Entei should just be left in the Pokédex, and you should devote your resources to stronger Fire types (there are plenty). However, if you're going to use Shadow Entei, you need to pick its moves wisely as there are so many Fire-type attacks to choose from. Starting with the Fast Attack, while Fire Spin and Fire Fang share the same damage, energy gain, and cooldown, Fire Spin gets the edge due to a higher damage window. * Overheat is the Charged Attack of choice, flexing the best DPSxDPE figures, making it an easy pick over Fire Blast. * Flamethrower is a two-bar Charged Attack but its overall power is too low to justify usage over Overheat. * That said, Flame Charge, costing only 33 energy, is a great second Charged Attack to unlock. In situations where Shadow Entei is close to getting KO’d and not in a position to fire off an Overheat, the cheap Flame Charge throws in some damage. * Scorching Sands and Iron Head are subpar moves for Shadow Entei when it already gets a great flexibility with its pure Fire-type moves.

Shadow Entei PvP Analysis

Recommended moves

🔵 Great League

Shadow Entei is far too frail to perform well in the Great League. With a very low Defense, it struggles to go far. To make things worse, Shadow Entei is a pure Fire-type, which makes it weak to Ground and Water-type attacks, both of which are common in PvP. At best, Shadow Entei can decimate Pokémon weak to Fire-type moves, but that’s about it.

🟡 Ultra League

The same applies to the Ultra League, except Shadow Entei may perform even worse here because there are fewer targets for it to take advantage of.

🟣 Master League

The best coverage move in Shadow Entei’s kit is Scorching Sands, which helps deal with Steel and Rock types, but both can also be dealt with via STAB moves from Shadow Entei. Yes, it also covers Poison, Fire, and Electric, but the scope is extremely limited since these types are relatively uncommon in this meta. Ultimately, this Pokémon lacks the firepower to truly break through the absolute units present in the Master League. No wonder it gets only a handful of wins, and even those are inconsistent.
