Overview

A Sweet Apple is an evolution item used to evolve Applin into Appletun, the Grass- and Dragon-type branch of the Applin family. One evolution requires 20 Sweet Apples and 200 Applin Candy. Sweet Apples are tracked in their own balance separately from Tart Apples and Syrupy Apples, so having a large mixed total of apples will still leave you short unless at least 20 of them are Sweet Apples.

There is no Trainer level requirement to collect or use Sweet Apples under the current leveling system.

How to get it

  • Tap apples appearing on the map—most commonly around PokéStops with an active Mossy Lure Module (including lures placed by another Trainer), or rarely in the wild.

  • Complete selected event Field Research, Timed Research, and GO Pass reward tracks, or catch Applin holding apples during featured events.

How to use it

  1. Collect 20 Sweet Apples and 200 Applin Candy, then open Applin’s summary screen in your Pokémon storage.

  2. Select the evolution button for Appletun and confirm the cost.

Worth knowing

Choose the Appletun evolution preview. Tart and Syrupy Apples lead to different Pokémon, even though the Candy costs are the same.

Sweet Apples do not take up space in your Item Bag; check your current count directly on Applin’s summary screen.

Finding and collecting apples

You can find apples on the map primarily around PokéStops with an active Mossy Lure Module, though they can also appear rarely on the map in the wild. The Mossy Lure Module can belong to you or another Trainer. When you tap an apple on the map, it can award Sweet Apples, Tart Apples, Syrupy Apples, other items, or start an encounter with a Pokémon such as Applin.

Featured events can also offer Sweet Apples through Field Research, branching Timed Research, GO Pass and GO Pass Deluxe reward tracks, and bonuses that give caught Applin a chance to hold an apple.

To spend your apples, open an Applin in your Pokémon storage and select the evolution button for the branch you want. Evolving into Appletun costs 20 Sweet Apples, evolving into Flapple costs 20 Tart Apples, and evolving into Dipplin costs 20 Syrupy Apples; each branch also requires 200 Applin Candy and draws only from its matching apple balance.

Release

Sweet Apples and Applin debuted during the Sweet Discoveries event from April 24 to April 29, 2025, alongside Tart Apples and the branching evolutions into Appletun and Flapple. Shiny Applin—making Shiny Appletun available by evolution—later debuted during the Harvest Festival event from September 29 to October 5, 2026.

Choosing Appletun and spending your apples

Open the Applin you want to evolve and select the Appletun button with the Sweet Apple requirement. This is a branch choice: Flapple does not evolve into Appletun, and feeding Sweet Apples cannot change a Flapple or Dipplin afterward. Keep another Applin if you want a different branch too.

Different apple varieties cannot be combined toward the 20-apple cost. For example, having 15 Sweet Apples and 10 Tart Apples does not meet the requirement; you still need 5 more Sweet Apples to evolve Applin into Appletun. Confirming the evolution deducts 20 Sweet Apples and leaves your Tart Apple and Syrupy Apple totals untouched. None of the apple varieties count toward your Item Bag capacity, and your current balances are displayed directly on Applin’s summary screen.

You do not need to stand near an active Mossy Lure Module to evolve Applin into Appletun. The Mossy Lure Module helps spawn apples on the map for collection, but it is not an evolution requirement. Once you have an Applin, 20 Sweet Apples, and 200 Applin Candy, you can complete the evolution from your Pokémon storage anywhere.
