Overview

An Elite Fast TM is a single-use item that lets you select the exact Fast Attack a Pokémon learns instead of rolling randomly with a standard Fast TM. Introduced in April 2020, it also unlocks most legacy and event-exclusive Fast Attacks—such as Community Day and Raid Day moves—that standard Fast TMs cannot teach.

Because Elite Fast TMs are scarce, it pays to check the in-game selection list first and save them for Pokémon whose performance in raids, Max Battles, or Trainer Battles depends on an exclusive Fast Attack.

How to get it

  • End-of-season GO Battle League rewards (at Rank 19 or higher), seasonal Timed Research passes, level-up rewards, GO Pass tracks, and event shop boxes provide Elite Fast TMs.

  • Completing Routes can also award an Elite Fast TM as a rare random reward, whereas regular Raid Battle reward bundles do not drop Elite TMs.

  • The current leveling system awards one Elite Fast TM at Trainer Level 40 (previously awarded at Level 45 before the October 2025 rebalance). Any Trainer can use an Elite Fast TM as soon as they obtain one from research, a GO Pass track, or a shop box.

How to use it

  1. Open your Item Bag and select the Elite Fast TM to choose a Pokémon, or open that Pokémon’s summary screen and select Items. Inspect the list of eligible Fast Attacks, choose the move you want, and tap Teach Attack to confirm.

Worth knowing

Save an Elite Fast TM for a move that is unavailable through a standard Fast TM or an upcoming evolution event, or when a Pokémon’s Fast Attack pool is too large to risk random rerolls.

Neither Fast TMs nor Elite Fast TMs can remove Frustration or Return, because both of those moves are Charged Attacks.

Check the move list first

An Elite Fast TM modifies only the Fast Attack slot; it cannot teach a Charged Attack or replace Frustration or Return. You can preview a Pokémon’s eligible Fast Attacks on the selection screen before confirming the change without consuming the item. While an Elite Fast TM grants access to almost all event-exclusive and legacy Fast Attacks, a small number of permanently retired moves removed for legality reasons remain excluded.

If a Pokémon can learn Hidden Power, previewing the move list with an Elite Fast TM reveals the specific elemental type of Hidden Power assigned to that individual Pokémon, though the item cannot change which Hidden Power type that Pokémon has.

Check the exact form and evolution stage. An attack available to an evolved Pokémon is not automatically available to its pre-evolution. Evolving afterward normally changes the moveset again, so finish the intended evolution before investing the Elite TM.

When choosing the attack is worth an Elite TM

There are two separate benefits: choosing the result and reaching an eligible event-exclusive move. An ordinary Fast TM can solve a normal move change, especially when the Pokémon has only two eligible Fast Attacks. An Elite Fast TM becomes much more valuable when the desired attack is outside that ordinary pool.

Well-known examples include Ice Shard on Dewgong, Smack Down on Tyranitar, and Dragon Breath or Wing Attack on Charizard. Each Pokémon only sees moves from its own eligible pool—an Elite Fast TM does not let you teach arbitrary moves across species. Always verify the offered list in-game, as move availability can change when seasonal move updates occur.

If you are preparing an unevolved Pokémon for an announced evolution event, compare that event’s attack reward with spending a TM now. The move you want is the goal; the Elite item is one possible route to it.

Choose for the battle you actually play

Fast Attacks both deal damage and generate energy. A move with impressive damage per hit can still be a poor fit if it builds energy too slowly for the Charged Attacks you need.

Gym and raid battles, Max Battles, and Trainer Battles evaluate Fast Attacks differently. Raids and Max Battles measure attack cooldowns in seconds, whereas Trainer Battles operate in 0.5-second turns. In Max Battles, a Dynamax Pokémon’s Fast Attack type also determines the elemental type of its Max Attack (while a Gigantamax Pokémon uses a fixed G-Max Move type), and faster 0.5-second Fast Attacks charge the Max Meter more quickly.

Evaluate how a Fast Attack performs in the specific format you play rather than spending an Elite Fast TM solely because a move is rare or shows a high base power.

Seasonal rewards and research

GO Battle League provides reliable free paths to earn Elite TMs each season. Reaching Rank 19 immediately awards an Elite Charged TM, and finishing the season at Rank 19 or higher awards one Elite Fast TM as an end-of-season reward when the next season starts.

In addition, the free seasonal GO Battle League Timed Research Pass in the in-game shop awards an Elite Fast TM upon completing its fourth battle page (Step 5 of 6, requiring 400 total battles and 200 wins across the first four battle steps in the 2026 seasonal format). Claim the pass from the shop early in the season and finish its tasks before the seasonal timer expires, as battles played before claiming the pass do not count toward its progress.
