Growlithe's Tier Ranking & Meta Analysis

Read meta analysis

Growlithe PvE Analysis

Recommended moves

Growlithe's stats are too low to help it find a place in the PvE meta. Its ATK isn't even decent enough for taking on Tier 1 Raid Bosses and its DEF is too low for Gym defense.

Growlithe PvP Analysis

Recommended moves

🧸 Little Cup

Growlithe is one of the strongest Pokémon in the Little Cup meta with many factors working in its favor. The Fire typing is great offensively, and Growlithe boasts a moveset that has a high energy generation Fast Move, a shield bait, and also a hard-hitter.

With these, Growlithe is not just beating the prominent Bug, Grass, Ice, and Steel types, but also claiming impressive wins such as Altaria (despite the resistance), Vulpix, Toxicroak, Chansey, Igglybuff, Wigglytuff, and Drifloon.

The only glaring issue is Growlithe’s low DEF, which makes it vulnerable to heavy Fast Move users like Bronzor, Wynaut, Deino, Dratini, and Scrafty.

However, accounting for Growlithe's weaknesses wouldn't take too much thought, so this pup is always a popular pick for this format.

🔵 Great League

Growlithe maxes out at only 1405 PC, so it may seem limited in its strength compared to many other Pokémon, but it still takes advantage of its super viable moveset to put up a glorious fight. Other than Aegislash and Galarian Stunfisk (though it takes out Steelix), it beats other core Steel types, dominates the several Bug Pokémon in the Great League, Empoleon, Shadow Sableye, Clefable, Cresselia, and Shadow Annihilape (not regular Annihilape).

While you should ideally go with other meta picks, Growlithe brings some real heat to battles. 🔥

Growlithe is not strong enough to take on the 🟡 Ultra-liga and 🟣 Liga Mestra.
