PvE Analysis
Recommended moves
- Fighting Attacker:
Counter
Cross Chop *
Primeape has a workable ATK stat and a good moveset for PvE, giving it a small spot in the heavily crowded Fighting-type meta. That said, its concerning bulk affects its standing and prevents it from being anywhere close to the top of the Fighting-type throne 🥋.
⚔️ Raids - Can be used when you're rejoining a lobby against a Raid boss weak to Fighting-type moves. Dodging is mandatory though ‼️.
🛡️ Gyms - A few Charm or Confusion attacks and it’s gone 😶.

Close Combat
The Mankey Community Day in November 2024 gave both Primeape and Annihilape the Ghost-type Charge attack Rage Fist 🤜. Surprisingly, the move benefits Primeape more thanks to its lightning-fast Quick attack Karate Chop 🥋. Despite lacking STAB, Rage Fist pairs with Karate Chop to turn Primeape into a deadly sweeper that can burn shields and muscle past formidable opponents 💪.
In fact, Rage Fist Primeape is arguably the best Fighting-type Pokémon in the lower PvP Leagues. Basically, you’re going to want this champion 🏆.
🔵 Great League - Primeape is not only the top Fighting type in this format, but it’s also one of the biggest offensive threats around 😮. The guaranteed ATK boost from Rage Fist, combined with the solid coverage it gains alongside Karate Chop, makes Primeape deadlier as the battle progresses 📈. It claims unlikely victims like Talonflame and Mandibuzz, as well as Shadow Feraligatr, Shadow Drapion, Shadow Quagsire, and more! 🤩. If you're lucky enough to build a Rage Fist Primeape with the ideal Great League stats of 5/12/11, put it in your team right away 🎯.
🟡 Ultra League - Primeape’s reign of terror slows down in the Ultra League with the rise of heavyweights like Giratina, Drifblim, and Shadow forms of Dragonite and Golurk 😶🌫️. But, it’s still the go-to Fighting type in this format, defeating the likes of Shadow Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Registeel, and Skeledirge 🔥. While it performs well in any role, using it as a lead is recommended 💯.
🟣 Master League - The Master League proves too much for poor Primeape to handle 😶.
