      PvP AnalysisPvP Analysis

As of its release in April 2026, Mimikyu is not usable in most battle modes. Niantic has acknowledged that the "third shield" mechanic is so powerful that it requires a rework or a specific balance update before being allowed into the GO Battle League.

Therefore, Mimikyu is a "trophy" for your Pokédex for now. However, once Niantic flips the switch and balances the defense-drop penalty against the free shield, Mimikyu is likely to become a top-tier meta Pokémon, so be careful and come back once/if that happens.

      Mimikyu's Busted Form

Mimikyu has two forms, Disguised and Busted. In PvP, it will not receive damage from the first Charge Attack that hits it, but it will then change to its Busted Form, which will cause a Defense drop for the rest of battle. This is a relatively unique mechanic that forces a form change mid-battle.

      • Disguised Forme: Mimikyu enters the battle with its disguise intact. It will completely block the damage of the first Charged Attack it receives (effectively acting as a free third shield).
      • Busted Forme: Once that initial hit is absorbed, the disguise "busts." Mimikyu then receives a permanent -1 Defense debuff for the rest of the battle, even if switched out.
      • Tactical Nuance: Using a standard Shield will protect the disguise. Skilled players will use their two regular shields first to preserve Mimikyu's base Defense, saving the "natural" shield for the endgame.

Mimikyu relies on high energy generation to make up for its somewhat expensive charged moves.

      Fast Moves

      • Shadow Claw (Ghost): The gold standard. With 3.0 DPT and 4.0 EPT, this is a non-negotiable pick for Mimikyu.
      • Hex (Ghost): While it offers slightly higher energy (4.33 EPT), the drop in damage is too significant to justify over Shadow Claw.

      Charged Moves

      • Shadow Sneak (Ghost): Not a high-damage move, but it is Mimikyu's cheapest option. Essential for baiting shields and consistent STAB damage.
      • Play Rough (Fairy): The primary nuke. Thanks to STAB, it generally outperforms Thunder even when dealing neutral damage. It provides vital coverage against Darks and Dragons.
      • Thunder (Electric): A niche coverage option for Water-types like Feraligatr or Azumarill, but usually takes a backseat to Play Rough.
