Overview

The GO Safari Ball is an event-limited Poké Ball with a camouflage pattern and "GO" stamped on its top, introduced for Pokémon GO Wild Area events to give Trainers a much higher chance of catching difficult Pokémon. Its strong catch modifier is especially valuable when you start an encounter with a mighty Pokémon, whose high levels make standard Poké Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls unreliable.

You can also select the GO Safari Ball during other eligible wild and Incense encounters while event hours are active. Because a GO Safari Ball does not guarantee a catch, pairing it with a Golden Razz Berry and a well-aimed curveball throw remains important.

How to get it

  • Participate in a Wild Area event that features GO Safari Balls.

  • Distribution can include event spins, research, supply balloons, or shop offers. Ticket benefits and quantities vary by event.

How to use it

  1. Select the GO Safari Ball from your Poké Ball menu during an eligible event encounter, just as you would select a standard Poké Ball.

  2. Use your GO Safari Balls within the event’s active hours; unused balls expire or become inaccessible once the event period ends.

Worth knowing

Check the current event description instead of relying on a past year’s hours or distribution.

Save some for mighty Pokémon you want to keep. High catching effectiveness still does not mean a guaranteed catch.

Wild Area history and distribution

GO Safari Balls debuted at GO Wild Area: Fukuoka on November 16–17, 2024, followed by the global event on November 23–24, 2024. During the 2024 events, ticket holders received 10 GO Safari Balls per hour through hourly Timed Research rather than Supply Balloons, and an optional US$1.99 GO Safari Ball: Extra Access Ticket during the 2024 global event awarded an extra 4 balls per hour. The 2025 editions took place in Nagasaki on November 7–9, 2025, and globally on November 15–16, 2025.

The 2025 global event also allowed Trainers to use GO Safari Balls in place of Premier Balls during eligible raid and Max Battle catch encounters.

During the 2025 global event, completing Professor Willow’s introductory tutorial at your first mighty Pokémon encounter granted 3 GO Safari Balls. Spinning Photo Discs at PokéStops and Gyms had a chance to drop more, while ticket holders received hourly Supply Balloons containing 15 GO Safari Balls. In-game shop bundles offered 10 for 60 PokéCoins, 25 for 125 PokéCoins, or 50 for 240 PokéCoins, and the Pokémon GO Web Store offered bulk bundles of 250 for US$9.99 and 500 for US$14.99.

These are historical 2025 offers, not guaranteed prices or benefits for future events.

The global event’s regular play window was 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time. GO Safari Ball availability and expiration followed each event’s rules—in 2024, for example, unused balls expired daily at 6:15 p.m. local time—and unused balls could never be saved for a later Wild Area event. Always read the current event’s hours and expiration notice before planning your catches.

Event access and Pokémon HOME transfers

For an in-person Wild Area, check the ticket date and the area covered by its bonuses; owning a ball does not grant event access. Global-event rules apply during the published local-time window.

Following the Pokémon HOME Version 4.1.0 update on October 7, 2026, eligible Pokémon caught in GO Safari Balls can be sent to Pokémon HOME via the GO Transporter. Once the transfer is complete, their ball is displayed as a Strange Ball in Pokémon HOME. Ordinary transfer restrictions still apply—for example, Spinda, Shadow Pokémon, Mega-Evolved Pokémon, Gigantamax Pokémon, and most costumed Pokémon cannot be transferred—so an otherwise ineligible Pokémon does not become transferable because it was caught in a GO Safari Ball.

Transfers to Pokémon HOME cannot be reversed. If an eligible Kanto Pokémon caught in a GO Safari Ball is sent to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, the GO Safari Ball is replaced by whichever ball you use to recapture it in GO Park.

Announced rules for GO Wild Area 2026

Two in-person events precede the global weekend on November 6–8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time on the ticketed day: GO Wild Area: Sendai • Tohoku and GO Wild Area: Mexico City, where ticket holders can obtain GO Safari Balls from PokéStop and Gym Photo Disc spins and hourly Supply Balloons.

The global event, GO Wild Area: Global 2026, is scheduled for November 14–15, 2026, with an active GO Safari Ball window of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time on both days. During the global event, all Trainers have a chance to receive GO Safari Balls by spinning Photo Discs at PokéStops and Gyms, while global ticket holders also receive an hourly Supply Balloon during event hours. The official announcement does not specify how many GO Safari Balls each 2026 Supply Balloon contains.

GO Safari Balls can only be used between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time on event days, and they become inaccessible in your Item Bag after GO Wild Area: Global concludes. Plan to use your GO Safari Balls during event hours instead of saving them for another weekend. The 2024 and 2025 shop bundles and research rewards described earlier are historical examples, not confirmed 2026 offers.

Choosing a mighty Pokémon encounter

Mighty Pokémon are high-level encounters that are much harder to catch and more likely to have high Attack, Defense, and HP ratings as well as an XL or XXL size. That makes them a sensible priority when you have only a few GO Safari Balls left. You can also use GO Safari Balls on other difficult wild or Incense encounters during event hours, such as rare Daily Adventure Incense spawns or ticket-holder Incense encounters like mighty Latias and Latios, which are quick to flee.

Using a GO Safari Ball increases your chance of catching the Pokémon; it does not alter the Pokémon’s stats or size.

For a Pokémon you particularly want to keep, combine the ball with a Golden Razz Berry and a well-aimed curveball. Wait for an attack or jump to finish before throwing. Even with these bonuses, a GO Safari Ball is not a Master Ball: a breakout or escape is still possible.
