Psychic
Shadow Metagross is a powerhouse in the Steel-type meta, sporting one of the highest DPS in this category. It even edges out Mega Metagross slightly but the Mega is far superior in performance, blending high offense and bulk seamlessly.
That said, Metagross (Shadow or Mega) is completely outclassed by Zacian (Crowned Sword), Zamazenta (Crowned Shield), and Dusk Mane Necrozma (a superior Steel/Psychic type).
In the Psychic type, Shadow Metagross is outclassed by many Pokémon, making it quite underwhelming in this regard.
This Shadow should strictly be used in the Steel type role, but keep in mind that there are better options.
⚔️ Raids
It resists Fairy, Ice and Rock, making it a strong pick to deal super-effective Steel-type damage.
🛡️ Gyms
Loses out on some bulk, making it a secondary option to regular Metagross. Still, a passable defender overall.
💎 The best PvE moves for Shadow Metagross are Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash.

🔵 Great League
Shadow Metagross' Attack-heavy stats and high CP make it inadequate for the Great League’s restricted format, giving it a disappointing run in this platform.
🟡 Ultra League
Shadow Metagross is underwhelming in the Ultra League but the Shadow bonus makes it a bit better than the regular. The Bullet Punch variant outperforms the Shadow Claw variant slightly, beating Lapras and Tinkaton, while losing Virizion. Overall, Shadow Metag ross is not a meta addition to the Ultra League, and should ideally be kept for the Master League.
🟣 Master League
Shadow Metagross is a strong contender for the Master League but is outclassed by a Legendary of the same Steel and Psychic type, Dusk Mane Necrozma.
The addition of Shadow Claw, however, marks an impressive upgrade over the Bullet Punch variant, beating Groudon, Lunala, Dawn Wings Necrozma, Zamazenta (Crowned Shield), and Bullet Punch Metagross, losing no matchups compared to the regular variant. Black Kyurem, Kyogre, Melmetal, Xerneas, Florges, Togekiss, Primarina, and Zacian (Hero of Many Battles) are other established wins.
Without shields in play, Shadow Metagross gains Lunala and Bullet Punch Metagross, but loses Therian Forme Landorus.
Shadow Metagross is overall a good Pokémon in the Master League but Dusk Mane Necrozma does it all better.
💎 The best PvP moves for Shadow Metagross are Shadow Claw, Meteor Mash and Earthquake.
