      Metagross in the meta

      Metagross in the meta

      PvE AnalysisPvE Analysis

Metagross is one of the strongest additions to Pokémon GO, doing full justice to its Pseudo Legendary status in the meta.

Backed with great offense and bulk, this Steel/Psychic-type behemoth is a well-rounded attacker, particularly in the Steel department where it excels with the powerful Meteor Mash 🔩

While its sheer damage output is not as massive as a Psychic-type attacker, it can still do double duty pretty well. Last but not least, Metagross boasts a whopping 10 type resistances, making it a tough Pokémon to beat 💪

⚔️ Raids - Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash make it among the go-to counters to Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type Raid Bosses. While Bullet Punch is slower after the Raid system update, Meteor Mash is faster, leaving Metagross still a force to be reckoned with 💯

🛡️ Gyms - With 10 resistances and great bulk, Metagross is a reasonable Gym Defender while also being a pro at clearing Gyms in a jiffy

      PvE AnalysisPvP Analysis

Metagross is an extremely resourceful 'mon in PvP, taking advantage of its impressive moveset, stats, and typing to be a worthy addition to any team.

It can break apart cores consisting of Fairy, Dragon, and other Steel types, though it needs to be wary of these opponents packing moves that do super-effective damage.

Meteor Mash is its weapon of choice, but for the second move, it can go with Earthquake for coverage against fellow Steel types and a powerful move in general, or Psychic for low-cost STAB damage. This flexibility makes it a sound choice 👍

🔵 Great League - Metagross’ high stats make it underwhelming for the Great League.

🟡 Ultra League - Better than the Great League, Metagross flexes its steely grit better in this format. However, it just feels not strong enough due to the CP limit.

🟣 Master League - Master League is Metagross’ home through and through, where it fulfills its offensive + defensive role the best. It's still a top-notch pick but is unfortunately surpassed heavily by Dusk Mane Necrozma, an OP Legendary of the same typing but with better stats and moveset 🤕

It doesn't help that Metal Claw got buffed, making Dusk Mane Necrozma stronger than ever. That said, powering up a Metagross is way easier and cheaper, so you can still go for this Pseudo Legendary and grab some cool GBL wins 🏆

                Catch probability with multiple throws

In order to help Trainers understand their overall odds when catching Metagross, we enable the functionality to showing the total chance to catch it depending on the number of available throws. We calculate this chance as if you repeated the same throw N-number of times.

To activate this functionality, change the number of Number of throws to a value greater than 1. The Number of throws option is available in the configuration options above the chart

                Catch rate formula

Pokémon GO catch rate formula can be expressed as follows:

                • CATCH_MULTIPLIERS = ball * curve * berry * throwType * (type1Medal + type2Medal / 2)
                • CATCH_RATE = 1 - Math.pow(1 - baseCatchRate / (2 * cpm), CATCH_MULTIPLIERS)

There are different multipliers that come into play when calculating catch rate.

Curved throws are more effective than regular throws, stronger types of Poké Ball have a higher catch rate, and using a Razz Berry or a Golden Razz Berry also improves your chances.
