Recommended moves
- Poison Attacker:
Poison Jab
Sludge Wave - Ground Attacker:
Fury Cutter *
Earth Power
Shadow Nidoking is a neat addition to the Pokémon’s performance in the meta. While it doesn't become too powerful, it becomes viable as a Poison-type attacker, mainly because there aren't too many attackers from the Poison typing in the game.
⚔️ Raids
Shadow Nidoking remains bad against high-tier Raid Bosses, but against 1- and low ATK 3-Star Fairy-type Bosses, you can give it a run. That said, you should still prefer stronger Pokémon like Eternatus, Nihilego, Naganadel, and Roserade.
🛡️ Gyms
Bulk is the main issue tainting Nidoking’s performance as a Gym defender, and the Shadow nerf to its DEF makes it worse.

Earth Power - Ultra League:

🔵 Great League
Shadow Nidoking is underwhelming in the Great League due to low bulk but the Shadow bonus does make it decent, and a vast improvement over the regular variant.
Its ability to quickly debuff the opponent’s DEF and then hit it hard with Ground STAB makes it a hurdle to Pokémon. Shadow Nidoking beats Fairies, Steel, and Poison types, is quite good against Bug types (except Shadow Scizor and Golisopod), and is dominant against Fighting types like regular and Shadow Annihilape, and Primeape, as its Poison typing helps resist their damage.
The prominence of Water Pokémon in the Great League is a major hindrance to Shadow Nidoking, however. Use it mainly to debuff opponents and if possible, hit them with a hard-hitting move if you were able to farm energy earlier.
🟡 Ultra League
While still an improvement over its regular variant, Shadow Nidoking is completely overshadowed by Nidoqueen in this format. It does get a few wins but is largely inconsistent with many more threats than it faced in the Great League. Just use Nidoqueen (regular or Shadow) instead.
🟣 Master League
Shadow Nidoking is too weak to take on the powerhouses of the Master League.
