PvP IV checker: questions and answers
How are PvP IV ranks calculated?
The checker evaluates all 4,096 combinations of Attack, Defense and HP IVs from 0 to 15. For each spread, it finds the highest half-level at or below your level cap that fits the league’s CP limit. It ranks the resulting Attack × Defense × HP stat product. Attack and Defense retain their precision; battle HP is rounded down, with a minimum of 10.
What does the stat product percentage mean?
It is your spread’s stat product divided by the best stat product for the same Pokémon, form, league and level cap. A value of 98% means 98% of that maximum stat product. It is not a win rate, percentile, appraisal percentage or ranking among different Pokémon.
Why can low Attack IVs be good for PvP?
Attack contributes more strongly to CP than Defense or HP. In leagues with a CP limit, lower Attack IVs can leave room for extra levels and more bulk. This is not a universal rule: attack breakpoints, Charged Attack priority and specific matchups can favor higher Attack. Master League has no CP limit, so maximizing all three IVs is usually preferable.
Should I always choose the rank 1 Pokémon?
No. This tool ranks stat product, not battle outcomes. Species, moves, team composition and matchups matter. A lower-ranked spread can win a particular matchup that rank 1 loses. Use the linked Pokémon PvP page to review movesets and league performance before spending resources.
How do level 40, level 50 and Best Buddy change the result?
The maximum level limits how far each spread can be powered up in this comparison. Level 40 excludes Candy XL power-ups. Level 50 allows them. Level 51 includes the one-level CP boost while a Best Buddy is your active buddy. Changing this limit can change the best spread, particularly for Pokémon that struggle to reach the league CP cap.
What does the minimum IV setting do?
It filters the ranking table to spreads whose three IVs meet your chosen floor. For example, a floor of 10 shows only 10–15 in every stat. Your overall rank and stat product percentage still use the complete eligible pool; the result also shows your position within the filtered pool. An IV floor does not guarantee that a particular Pokémon can be obtained from a given encounter.
Can I compare evolutions, Shadow Pokémon and alternate forms?
Choose the exact form in the Pokémon search. The family comparison applies your IVs to related Pokémon and forms, each with its own base stats. Evolution normally preserves IVs, but purification changes them, so enter the IVs of the Pokémon you intend to use. Shadow damage modifiers are not applied to this stat-product score. The checker does not enforce species bans or special cup rules.
Why might another IV checker show a different rank?
Check that the species, form, CP limit and maximum level match. IV floors, CP multiplier precision, HP rounding and tie-breaking can also differ. Here, equal stat products are ordered by higher Attack, then HP, then CP, then IVs. Positions are sequential, even for tied stat products. Values are rounded only for display, after ranking.
