PvE Analysis
Recommended moves
- Rock Attacker:
Rock Throw
Rock Slide * - Ground Attacker:
Rock Throw
Sand Tomb
Onix appears strong but looks can be deceiving as it has an ATK stat of only 85, rendering it useless for PvE battles. 👎
⚔️ Raids
With negligible damage output, Onix would only waste precious time in Raids.
🛡️ Gyms
Even though Onix rocks a 232 DEF stat, its Rock/Ground typing gives it two double weaknesses to common types (Grass and Water). So, it's not a good idea to leave it in Gyms.
PvP Analysis
Recommended moves
- Great League:
Rock Throw
Rock Slide
Sand Tomb
🧸 Little Cup
With its huge DEF and good moves, Onix is quite good in the Little Cup, beating prime targets like Ducklett, Deino, and Cottonee. It also offers support with Sand Tomb’s guaranteed DEF debuffs for the opponent. However, it loses to all other top threats, making it unreliable for wins of its own accord.
🔵 Great League
Not only does Onix have a max CP of only 1245, its offenses are terrible and it goes down easily to its many common weaknesses (Grass x2, Water x2, Fighting, Ground, Ice, and Steel).
Onix is not viable for the Ultra and Master League.
💎 The best PvP moves for Onix are Rock Throw, Rock Slide and Sand Tomb.
