Recommended moves

Shadow Rhyperior is one of the most valuable attackers in Pokémon GO, as it excels both as a Ground and as Rock-type attacker. With a single Fast TM, you can easily alternate between Mud-Slap and Smack Down as long as you have unlocked both Earthquake/Drill Run and Rock Wrecker, making it perform double duty. Remember that Ground and Rock STAB account for super-effective damage against eight different types, making this iconic Pokémon an asset for your collection. As a Ground type, Shadow Rhyperior surpasses regular Groudon with Precipice Blades, but it's still behind Shadow Mamoswine, Shadow Garchomp, and other top-notch Ground-type attackers. The true flex from Shadow Rhyperior comes in the Rock typing where Rock Wrecker propels it to the top bracket, trailed in damage numbers only by Shadow Rampardos, Mega Glimmora, and Mega Diancie. Shadow Rhyperior is a fierce Rock-type attacker, and is definitely worth an Elite Charged TM if you don't already have Rock Wrecker. Despite its remarkable feats in Raids, Shadow Rhyperior is disappointing as a Gym defender, due to several weaknesses that can be easily exploited by common Gym attackers.

🔵 Great League

Drill Run getting added to Shadow Rhyperior's movepool during the Forever Forward Season update gave it a new lease of life in PvP. Its performance is impressive, taking down many core threats of the Great League, including Empoleon and Shadow Empoleon, Guzzlord, Wigglytuff, Lickilicky, and Charjabug. It's hardly any different from its regular version in this format, beating Galarian Corsola, Furret, and Empoleon (which the regular variant can't), but losing to Sableye, Seaking, and Shadow Talonflame.

🟡 Ultra League

Shadow Rhyperior is actually a slight downgrade to regular Rhyperior, as the latter manages to beat Cobalion, Togekiss, Regidrago, and Ampharos. However, Shadow Rhyperior is capable of doing something that the regular variant can't, and that's reliably beating Giratina Altered (both Ancient Power and Shadow Sneak versions). Aside from slaying the ghostly dragon, Shadow Rhyperior also takes out Shadow Ampharos and Guzzlord.

🟣 Master League

Shadow Rhyperior is a dominant force in the Master League, beating a host of top threats such as Zacian Hero, Zacian Crowned Sword, Dusk Mane Necrozma, Ho-Oh, Meloetta Aria, Eternatus, Mewtwo, and also beating Metagross and Togekiss.

It's honestly a perfect sidegrade to the regular version. Shadow Rhyperior takes down Yveltal and Zamazenta Crowned Shield, while the regular is successful against Lugia and Xerneas.
