One of the three legendary dogs from the Johto region, Shadow Raikou is arguably the most effective of the trio in Pokémon Go. Blessed with an excellent moveset for both PvP and PvE, Shadow Raikou is a solid investment for its rapid and strong Electric power.

Preferred Moveset: Thunder Shock, Wild Charge

⚔️ Raids – Shadow Raikou is now the #3 ranked Electric type raid attacker in the game, with very high DPS and TDO. Electric types in general tend to be offensively oriented, and Shadow Raikou is no exception, but it will deal out huge damage while it's on the field.

🛡️ Gyms – Shadow Raikou is unable to participate in gym defence.

🔵 Great League - Shadow Raikou is super rare in the Great League, but packs a serious punch. Raikou isn't as consistent as other Electric types such as Charjabug due to its offense-oriented stat product, but with careful gameplay and with shield advantage, it can actually handle much of the current meta, though its inconsistent performance holds it back. Best suited to limited metas.

🟡 Ultra League - More easily accessible in the Ultra League, Shadow Raikou is here for a good time, not a long time! With a shield advantage, it is absolutely deadly. For example, in the 1v0 shield scenario, Shadow Raikou only loses to a handful of the meta, which makes it very effective in a closing role—particularly if you can pull early shields from your opponents and maintain the right alignment in the end game. Definitely a spicy pick, but worth consideration!

🟣 Master League - Shadow Raikou is very challenging to use with success in the highest CP format. Where the extra bulk and power of some of its contemporaries begin to shine, Shadow Raikou tends to get left behind. Electric type damage has less utility in the Master League due to the prevalence of Dragon and Ground types in the meta. When given a shield advantage, Shadow Raikou performs fairly well, but there are definitely safer investments for the Master League.

However, these bonuses do not stack if there are multiple Mega-Evolved Pokémon battling simultaneously; only the higher boost will be applied.

Mega and Primal Catch Bonus –While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.
