⚔️ Raids
Shadow Heatran is a must-have for all Pokémon GO trainers as this Legendary is the #1 non-Mega Fire-type attacker in DPS, thanks to its signature attack Magma Storm. The 1.2x Shadow bonus to its Attack makes Heatran even deadlier, while the 0.83x nerf to its Defense doesn't hinder it much due to its bulk. If you can, make sure to get a good IV Shadow Heatran.
Shadow Heatran is so good that it is the third best non-Mega Fire-type attacker at the time of writing this description, only sitting behind Shadow Reshiram and Blacephalon. It's quite the investment though, as you need to spend a lot of Stardust and Rare Candy to power it up (how else would you get the Candy otherwise, this thing needs 20 km of walking for 1 Candy), plus you need an Elite Charged TM for Magma Storm, which is its absolutely best move.
But it's worth it if you can't get a stronger Fire-type attacker, or if you don't have a powered up Reshiram already. In all likelihood, it will be probably easier to get a strong Reshiram than a fully powered up Shadow Heatran with Magma Storm.
Shadow Heatran resists all the types that Fire-type moves are super-effective against: Bug, Grass, Ice, and Steel! 👀

Earth Power
The Fire/Steel-type combo, 10 resistances, and a good moveset give Shadow Heatran solid PvP potential, but it struggles in the Great League and Ultra League. There are simply too many strong Ground-types in those leagues, which destroys Shadow Heatran. However, in the Master League, it truly shines thanks to its stats and typing, and in general a more favorable meta.
🔵 Great League
Quagsire, Kingdra, Stunfisk, Seaking, Seismitoad and Feraligatr make it difficult for Shadow Heatran, but it performs better than its non-Shadow counterpart, especially as a lead. Still not great by any means.
🟡 Ultra League
Lower bulk and better alternatives limit its viability, and a similar story happens like in the Great League.
🟣 Master League
Shadow Heatran finally starts performing with good bulk, impressive resistances, and counters Steel and Fairy types effectively, landing some impressive wins against Zamazenta, Zacian, Metagross, Necrozma, Dialga and the rest of company. Be on the lookout for Rhyperior.
